Don't get me wrong, DeBeers is a good product, just we find some limitations for what we do at our work.
Standox, PPG, Glasurit, Spies Hecker, Akzo Nobel, Mipa are all brands that have a good strong manufacturers support available.
I have seen some great paintjobs done with cheaper brand paints, but the real proof is in the long term ability for the products to resist fading or surface breakdown.
There are several aspects to what brand paints shops will use if they have an exclusive brand. Cost, speed, application technique, colour matching availability, manufacturer support, training available, ease of use, compatability, etc.
This all said and done, My wifes bus is painted with DeBeers products, however a bit of Standox tinter was used in colour matching as the DeBeers did not have the range of tinters available. Using small amounts of another systems tinters in a basecoat pearl colour is not ideal, but not necessarily bad.
My car is painted in Spies Hecker products from 15 years ago. Our other car was painted exclusively in PPG products 5 years ago as per what brand was in the shop I was working at that time.
If it is old or rare - Cut it!
