I bought 4 x HQ sedans a few years ago when my son was around 7 yrs old-ish.

He is now 15 and loves his HQ's.Thank god he doesn't want to doof, doof, bling, bling the car up. Wants to restore it to HQ SS clone style in "Lettuce Alone".He will have a Classic Carlectables 1:18 scale HQ SS in Lettuce Alone under this years Xmas tree.

One of the HQ's, will become a father/son project a bit down the track. One of the others might be dads car after the father/son project is finished.Mum might need one as well............

Can someone help with de-coding the ID tags please as I don't have any access to HQ info at all.

I have one to start with and will get the tag info from the other three tomorrow if anyone can help at all.

This one is engineless/gearboxless ATM and was bought that way.The bloke I bought it from said it came to him as a 308/4 speed.I have the 4 speed in the boot but not the 308.It has V8 salisbury ( from memory 3.08 non LSD ).

Has GTS dash and black GTS looking interior ATM.

I have a feeling it was a factory V8/4 speed originally ?

Here goes:-

Small tag:- 8Q69xxxxxx8Q

Compliance tag:- 9/73 DHQxxxxxxS ( Sydney car ?? )

Seating capacity 6

Body tag:-

Model 80469QR

Body no 8xxxx8-S ( Sydney car ?? )

Trim 1878-30X

Paint 568-15893

Engine L31 Trans M21 RRaxle GV2

Car was bought with some home done job in Commodore colour paint?? "Bermuda Blue " ??
( sorry, not into Commondoors )but it was done badly and needs a repaint.

Will post up the other 3 x HQ ID's tomorrow if any can help with the ID's.

Thanks.

You may not want to paint this one up as a SS as it is Sydney built HQ Monaro GTS Sedan.
308 V8 M21 4spd box and a 3.36:1 Salisbury diff.
Going by the paint code it should look like this paint wise from factory
http://gallery.oldholden...+Chrome+Yellow.JPG.html

30X trim can be seen here
http://gallery.oldholden...es/HQ/30+Black/GTS_001/

The only problem I can see is that the ADR tag (the one with the chassis number and build date on)
does not match the rest of the details, ADR tag is from a earlier Sydney built HQ.
The main details are from the May 1974 time frame.

Being a Sydney built HQ the body should also have a body number stamped into the firewall just above the heater box.
It should be somewhere around the late 1xxxx S to early 2xxxx S range.

The other thing would be to check the actual chassis number on the chassis rails near the steering box on the drivers side of the car.
It should be around the EHQ 18xxx S to EHQ 19xxx S range.

I can post pictures of a chassis number and body stamp numbers if required.
Cheers Paul.

Thanks Paul for taking the time to reply.

OK, GTS it stays then.I'm not one for deviating from factory on what appears to be a genuine GTS!! Hope I'm not getting too excited too early!!

I think the other two rebuildable HQ's can be the SS clones then.

The info I posted was from the tags that were supplied with the car which were removed by the previous owner.I have then stored safely in my house until they go back on the car.

I'll get the body firewall number and chassis number off this car tomorrow.I used to mess with HQ's years ago, stupidly sold my 80837 GTS coupe back in '91 for $5000.

Again, thanks for the reply, appreciated.

I'll have a look at the links you provided in your reply.

Glad to help out.
You may also be interested to have a look at our little HQ SS forum
http://www.concourseparts.com.au/forum/
and also our collection of SS related pictures here
http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn14/HQSS1972/
This now has over 1300 images of SS's, including members cars, road tests from the 70's
and all other SS related things that we can find.

If you want too you could also get the engine number off this car and any other engine numbers you may want to check to see what they are from.
Someone should be able to come up with a rough date and what they were originally from with the engine number.
Cheers Paul.

Thanks again Paul, I'll check those links out.

HK1837,

Unfortunately the previous owner of this HQ took the tags off when he painted the car before I bought it.I haven't looked under the bonnet of this car for a long time so maybe the missing tag is still on the car and the tag that doesn't match up is just one he had floating around and thought it was for this car??

Will post up details of this and other HQ's this arvo.

Cheers.

Paul,

I now have all the details of the 4 X HQ's here but I might send you the details in an email if thats OK for "security" reasons if you know what I mean.

Had a scratch around the HQ with details above and yes, there is yellow paint on unpainted areas and under under the Bermuda Blue paint that it is currently painted in.Nose cone is also yellow under the paint. Had to scratch a heap of paint and spray filler from underneath the firewall body number to be able to read the firewall number.

There was Blue paint, then spray filler ( heaps of ), then black paint then yellow paint then metal.

Email will hopefully be in your email inbox in about 1/2 hour.

Cheers

Have just sent an eamil message to you Paul, re de-coding the 4 x HQ's I have here.

One of the other ones was also an 80469 on the body tag ..... does that mean it is GTS as well ??

80469 does not make it a GTS alone but the trim code will tell you

JUSTGM,CLOUDY,JIM,

Maybe the words "security reasons " weren't the right words but they sufficed at the time.I have known blokes that have had vehicle ID details apparently taken from a few internet forums and have I had problems myself a few years ago with playing email/telephone ping pong for months with the robots at NSW RTA and VICROADS over a duplicated 6 cyl Red motor engine ending up in a 1994 Subaru wagon registered in Victoria.I ended up giving up as it all became too difficult. The red motor was only an old runner so it wasn't really worth the effort dealing with it.

Hence some reluctance on my part to post up full details of vehicles on a public forum.

Thanks to HQSS for help decoding the 4 x HQ's.

Via some PM's from HQSS it seems that the previously mentioned HQ is an original GTS 4 door body however unfortunately from either a prang or chassis damage?? whatever ?????? ........ the previous owner/s to me have replaced the chassis sometime in its past with one from an earlier car hence the compliance plate change.I don't have the original comp tag so don't know how I'm going to deal with the automatons at the NSW RTA at rego time when it comes to that??

I have the original receipt from 2001 when I bought it with the chassis change details on that.

As far as I'm aware, they only use the existing chassis number on the fitted chassis and the engine number in identifying a vehicle of this era so maybe it will end up OK??

The other three cars are V8 Kingswood sedan 5/72 Sydney built, Trim 1845-16E, Paint 567-13887 ( can't remember what colour HQSS told me it was ?? ).Looks like same colour my 80837 HQ Coupe was that I owned years ago ( Champagne Gold )

Plain-Jane 173 ci Kingswood sedan 1/74 Sydney built, Trim 1876-38J, Paint 568-15826 ( Azure Blue )

Plain-Jane 202 ci Kingswood Sedan 6/72 Sydney built,Trim 1821-24E, Paint 568-13134 ( Glacier White )

I'm getting as many date codes from my 4 cars for HQSS as I can find to assist compiling HQ information for help with others and will in time get some photos up here of the 4 cars so everyone can have a lookey see. They are currently under cover and in a hard to get at position for decent photos. They aren't pretty cars, but were cheap to buy at the time ( late 1990's/early 2000's )but needing full resto/repairs.
