Hi, just wondering if anyone might have some pictures of a HG Panelvan or any van really, with headlining fitted around the sunroof.

I need a new half headlining, and I have the old style push up sunroof. I cannot picture in my mind how the headlining will stay properly in place as the bow's cannot be used because of the sunroof.

I am seriously thinking I might be better off removing the sunroof and having the hole welded up, but am a little worried about the distortion thing.

What do you recommend.
Thanks mick

The sunroof normally has a rubber insert around the internal perimeter of the frame, so you wrap the headlining around into it, and fit the rubber into the groove to secure it. These appear neat when you look up, as the vinyl wraps around the edge of the hole neatly, exposing only he sunroof & the inside perimeter of it's frame.

Some have an additional "frame" that bolts up to the underside of the sunroof frame, to secure the headlining this way - these tend to have a much wider cross-section when you look up at the roof - they're easily spotted as a wide border around the hole.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Mick, Its a Paja sunshine roof, I think I might be missing a dress ring or something as when you look up you can see all the screws that hold the inner and outer frame together.

There is a 740 x 360 hole in the roof, what do you think get another sunroof and new headliner or weld it up.

Ta Mick

My own opinion - I love sunroofs - the electric tilt/slide ones, but only on a 'flat roof' car or ute, and I would replace a popup with one of these in an instant.

However, the panel van's roof profile doesn't lead itself to fitting one like that, although it is perfect for popups - which I hate!

I'd be more inclined to leave the 70s & 80s behind, and weld up the roof - that's just my preference for any panel van.
Cheers,

Mick

Hi there, I fully agree with commodorenut "weld the roof" I had a twin window pop up in my Hq coupe. When I bought it 22 years ago it leaked and right up until I got it removed recently it still leaked. Then the flow on effect lifted the carpet and found the water that leaked in rusted the floor pans doing more damage and cost BIG $$$ to fix roof and pans.Even the guy I bought this car from said it was a "big 80's mistake" and "regetted getting it fitted". But man if you like it, well it's your call... good luck and GO THE SINBINS!!!

I have welded up heaps of sunroofs. It can be done by someone who knows what they are doing. New fabricated wheeled section made and fusion welded and metal finished with no filler will cost about $3000. Then you have paint on top of that. Or give it a go yourself.
