Correct aerial position for hq coupe

Hi there, anybody know correct aerial position for hq coupe I'm restoring? It's currently on back qtr but thought it probably belongs on front qtr. I looked at photos on net and can see many on back qtr so now I'm not sure. Any thoughts? Phil |

My HJ Premier has it in the quarter, but it is a powered antenna. From memory most normal antennas were on the LH front guard of HQ-HZ. Others will know the ins and outs of HQ coupes much better than me though. |

Mate's HQ coupe has an electric aerial in the passenger side rear quarter. He is very particular that the car is factory correct and shows it at shows. He is just back from the Monaro Nationals.

I would agree with the above comments; standard (non-electric) aerial on the LHF guard & the electric aerial on the LHR.
It is for this reason that the electric aerial was not officially available on wagons, utes & vans.
If a buyer wanted a standard aerial on the rear guard, a dealer would often oblige, it could easily be done, it's just that the factory didn't put it there. Same goes for an electric aerial on the front guard, I've seen plenty of those.

My HJ statesman and HX prem both have rear electric antennas,HQ accessorie book shows rear mounted power antenna in the book photo

Interesting seeing the different positions for the Aerial/Antenna.
I'll add another - Factory Electric in My HQ South Africian export Chev Statesman is in Drivers side front Fender.

Thanks for the responses, too bad my panel beater has already welded up the hole. I'll have to ask him to put it back. Next time I'll check first. Phil |

Before you get the guy to put the hole back, check in the fuse box area to see what the car had originally. An electric one was powered from the fuse box and there will be signs of the terminal and so on. The dash fascia will also have a cut out for the switch position as these were manual operation. The car will also have had a wiring harness for the electrics. The wiring circuit diagram will show all this and where the harness was routed through the car. For a dealer to do as per factory job half the car needs to come apart as the wiring and bits were put in the early stages of assembly. Fender mounts are a lot simpler.
