If it's a HOLDEN branded car radio it will be an Air Chief radio. They were sold thru GM-H's accessory arm, Nasco & made by REI.

Air Cheif radios are often confused with & wrongly called Diamond Dots. To confuse the issue even further some earlier model Air Chief radios even had a jewel on their facia.

REI also manufactured the Astor range of products which included the Diamond Dot brand. These used the same chassis as the Air Chief but have a different facia & were sold into the aftermarket to fit just about any car on the market.

Thanks all, it is branded Holden on the front, and does have a red dot, lit, in the centre of the dial background.

One more question, the RH knobs control on/off volume and tone, the LH knob tunes station, but what is the other function on the LH side?

The outer knob on the LH side is sometimes used as a switch to operate the 'anti crackle' noise filter built into the higher end Air Chief models.

Yes, there were many different brands in the aftermarket, but the Air Chief was the only 'genuine GM-H' car radio.

HMV, Ferris, AWA & a few others that I can't remember just now, were all Australian made car radios of the era, sold against the genuine Air Chief.
