Hi All, I have just fitted a AM/FM Radio from a HZ SL/E to my WB P Van having already had fitted a standard AM radio to make everything look nice and original (factory fitted) with the GTS dash that was also installed I had modified an after market speaker to fit in the guts of the single factory dash mounted speaker that worked quite well and sounds as good as you would expect, but what I would like to do now is retain my single speaker in the dash and run another two more speakers behind the seats to go with the FM stereo Radio that has now been installed, is this possible????? I am no Audio Guru but do know that with stereo the two speakers are running independently to each other and to fit a third one is one short of a quad set up so what would the third one be doing????, would I need to run an amp of some kind to split up the sound ???? Does the WB Caprice have a single speaker in the dash and one in each front door and that they have an Amp up in the front right corner then the two speakers in the rear parcel tray, is this why there is a balance switch ???? I hope this question makes sense, or am I best to just run the two speakers behind the seats it is just that I am so happy with how well the dash speaker turned out I want to retain it just for bragging rights.

Good choice of radio for your van MS, they suit the sports dash nicely and work well. WB commercials factory/dealer fitted with this same radio or the Eurovox rad/cassette stereo had 2 speakers which were mounted to the kick panels behind the plastic grilles. If you pull your kick panels off you'll see the dimples for where the mounting screws went.

I don't think the HZ SL/E type radio would have enough grunt to run big speakers behind your seats unless you installed an amp. You'd be able to buy a pair of good quality 4" speakers and mount them behind the kick panels and if you're still not happy go down the amp path.

If you were to hook up the centre speaker, you'd have to choose if it goes on the left or right channel, which wouldn't really be ideal, but if you wanted to get fancy you could retain it and get the correct fader knob (positioned left of the lighter), then wire it up with fade along with the built in balance.

WB Caprice (both series) didn't have a speaker in the dash, that was only the Devilles which also had a separate fader knob in the panel above as the stereos used in them didn't have fading capability (front to rear). I'm not sure what channel the dash speaker in the Deville was hooked into, (left or right?), someone might know?

Cheers for the reply Rhys most appreciated The van originally had a Kenwood unit in the dash this was quickly relocated and put into the glove box with a couple of 6.5's put behind the kick panels removing the speakers from the doors that the previous owner had hacked into the door trims and an Ariel splitter fitted allowing the two units to be run independently. I may just run a couple of 4's behind the seats and not worry about the third speaker as there is no way in the world I will drill a hole in the GTS Dash for a fader knob Cheers MS

Early Commodores of the WB era had the following:
1. AM radio - only the dash speaker fitted.
2. AM/FM radio - dash speaker standard, and optional LH rear parcel shelf speaker.
3. AM/FM radio/cassette - VB & VC SL/E with 3 speakers - one in the dash & 2 on the rear shelf.

When there were only 2 speakers, the right channel hooked up to the dash, and the left to the rear LH side single speaker.

VB & VC SL/E had a pair on the parcel tray, the front was still on the RH channel like a 2 speaker system, but the fader beside the ashtray faded front to rear.
If you turned the balance knob to the left side, and the fader to the front, the sound stopped.

Assuming WB followed suit (like they did with most things radio related) then the centre front in a DeVille would be the RH channel
