While my car has been stripped the brake lines have dried out and have fine rust powder on the inside, not major corrosion.
I have been told that they can safely be flushed through with methylated spirits from a paraffin gun on an airline and then blown dry with air.
Has anyone done this before or can you see any problems in doing so?
I intend to use silicone brake fluid incase that makes any difference!
Any comments or info appreciated.

100% safe done mine clean as a whistle its amazing whats in the lines as far as silicon is its good fluid but not necessary as what people don't understand is that brake fluid should also be changes at least once a year as the brake fluid takes in moisture (water in the lines) and that leads to discolored brake fluid which ends up as rust .with silicon it wont take water but the moisture still enters the lines and sits in pockets thus can cause more damage as its not easily detected.good side to silicon is its heat rating which is good in a racing environment.so me personally go for a dot 4 fluid for a street car

Thanks for that info, much appreciated.
I was going to use silicone fluid mainly because it doesn't lift the paint if it ever leaks!!
Good point about the silicone not changing colour though.

Thanks again.

no probs its not to say don't use it as you said its good also for that reason for paint damage also another point if you do have a leak its not easy to get hold of the silicon fluid in a local petrol station and stored open fluid is normally good for about 12 months only so keep a new unopened bottle handy and don't mix between brands
