I bought a 2001 Holden Astra City recently. Car is in very good condition. Despite this warning light is on. Is marked by the arrow in the photo. What does this mean? Edited by user Thursday, 6 March 2014 3:25:48 AM(UTC)

That's the "Check Engine" light. It indicates some sort of malfunction in the engine management system.
You need to a get a technician to check it out, by reading the codes using a scanner.
It could be anything from an oxygen sensor or crank sensor fault or maybe an engine misfire (ignition) type fault.

Could it be something serious?

It depends what you mean by "serious". It won't be a internal engine fault, if that's what you mean. The fault will be electronic in nature. The light is wrongly named. It should be called a "Check Systems " light or similar. I would be a lot more worried if the oil light came on. Dr Terry |
