Hi all,
I need to know something please to assist with my project.

I have an old HG Ute with no motor or gearbox or driveshaft etc.
The steering I think is manual & Im told not setup for Tri matic which is what I want.

So if I was to say buy a wrecked newer ute say a HQ-HZ that was complete would all the steering & other components just swap pretty
much straight over or would I have some large issues to contend with along the way somewhere?

My Ute has clearly had both column shift & floor shift before but Im pretty keen on column shift tri matic with a 253 or 308.

Im Keen to hear from anyone with experience in this sort of job if possible please & Im open to all suggestions & ideas.

If you buy a later ute such as HQ there will be very few donor parts. You could use the motor and gearbox, but the sump on the engine will need to be changed, as will engine mounts accellerator exhaust gearbox crossmember tailshaft and diff are all different. the trimatic will also be electric kick down and HG have cable kick down, although this is not hard to fit the electric if you have the donor HQ.

The steering and steering column are completely different and of no use to you.

Donor HT/G V8s are becomeing prohibitively expensive for this type of conversion, but some of the parts are still out there. You can pick up a good V8 and trimatic (with right hand shift) from any car then hunt the following:

Sump and pick up, gearbox crossmember, tailshaft (tailshaft can be custom built at reasonable cost), steerng column and shift mechanism.

Wiring, accelerator, exhaust etc can all be custom made.
