Noticed this late HG maintenance manual and was surprised at the 10/71 sale date and the 253H395583 engine number. I have a July 71 Sydney build HG which I though was one of the last built with engine number 253H37995. Makes me wonder if some HG's were built after the HQ release in August 71. HG's were made after HQ release but only utes and vans. HQ commercials weren't released until around November 1971.
Remember that engine numbers aren't a good indication of the relative build of the vehicles unless they are Chevrolet engines. J251774 is a PSN from far earlier in 1971. By 7/71 Dandenong were up to J288000. I have HQ's from 5/71 with PSN's around J281000. This one was probably an internal Company car, and given Bill Patterson sold it gives more credence to this possibility. It may even have had an engine change prior to being sold. Or it could have just have been an unloved one and was sold in runout.
Note also that Holden V8 engines were stockpiled for use in HG commercials past HQ engine volume production. HG commercials changed to 173 and 202 but the V8's were stockpiled so what engine went in what car would be a lottery. |
