Interested to know if this stencil is a common to all HK Monaros? (this is a Brisbane manufactured car) and if so any ideas on the following points:

The last letter on the stencil is illegible, if it was clear would it be specific to this car or common to many cars and what might it be if it is common to many cars?

Is there a specific type/format of stencil to use: i.e. text and size

It is the part number for the complete engine crossmember afaik. The BL is the broadcast sheet code for the complete item. This number isn't listed in parts catalogues normally as you couldn't buy the whole assembly. 2805254 appears in the HT catalogue index but that number looks like 2505256 or 2505250.

If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords?

The BL on the crossmember indicates it is either:

GTS 327
GTS 307
GTS 186S with air

There seems to be some question as to weather a 327 should have BL code, due to the brake backing sheilds being different. However we kn0ow that early Melbourne cars were recalled for not having them removed in the factory.

Not that many cars have the code still on them.

I believe that would make it part number 2805250, for the complete assembly, as all those models use the 720 lb/in front springs.
It's still a little strange to use a common code and part number, as the GTS307 with aircon lists a thicker spring insulator,
or is there yet another part number and code for this variant?

HT would be a different assembly part number for several reasons, including the lower control arm shaft being different.

Were the backing plates deleted from HK81837 from day one, or was it a running change after the first bout of front brake fade?

I should have put GTS307 exc air con.

The above are HK codes, the HT:

350M DQ
GTS 307 Auto no air DL
GTS V8M/L6 with air DF
GTS 6 without air DC.

Thanks for the replies. Can't say I am aware of the details of the backing plates on the 327 Monaros, but would be interested to find out more about that. Looking at these photos again, think I will put the stencil back with it ending in a 0 (have pin pricked the perimeter of the original stencil but in hindsight shoud have covered it before sand blasting the crossmember) In reference to the mention of thicker spring insulators in one of the replies, I noted that when I pulled the front end apart in 2012, it had two spring insulators on the right hand side and one on the left (each one about two mm's thick. I don't recall ever pulling the springs out before then and I have owned the car from around 1975) If this was original was it just an assembly line error? any thoughts on this. Thanks again for the replies

According to the HT Service manual the dust shield was deleted on the HT GTS350. I wasn't aware that this was the case on the HK GTS327 as well, but if Warren says so, I'm a believer.

From your other post I believe yours is a HK 307 manual without air, which means it should have the same spring insulators as my HT. The standard setup is one 0.080" per side(2.03mm - you have good eyesight and estimating skills), with an added 0.220" insulator on each side for models with air conditioning. Mention is also made in the HK service manual of the of the possibility of one extra factory fitted insulator on the right hand side on right hand drive models to trim the car to level. My HT, which I've had since 1979, also has the extra 0.080" insulator on the right hand side. I suspect most if not all cars got it, as it wouldn't have been fun to pull the suspension apart to add the insulator on the production line.
We'll see if anyone else can confirm this.

gm5735 has got it. 2805250 exc A/c and 2805251 with A/C. They are assembly parts numbers. You will find those numbers listed in Catalogue No M36567, a supplementary Parts Catalogue. It states in this catalogue these assemblies were only available on a firm order. The Numbers on the earlier HKs was 7434500 AC. You will also probably only find that number listed in the very early parts catalogues. Warren this 327s assembly Number clearly shows 2805250 but no evidence of the BL code you mention, so that may be correct about the BL code not on 327s. Incidently the yellow crayon also on this assembly I can't quite make out whether it is a 31 or a 51. but also on the extension, the date code is 15 H 8 D.

With the best wishes to all, for 2015

Jack

Good stuff Wayne. Is it just the angle, or is that stabiliser bar bigger than standard? The HK327, HT350 and HG350 cars all use exactly the same bar, which is 15/16" OD.

I didnt measure the swaybar but its probably around 15/16" or 1"
Cleaned up pretty good.
All the steering joints are original and seem to be in a very good condition, hopefully the original ball joints are in good nick as well.
