Even with original engine I havent seen a ute advertised for over $15k let alone sell for anything near that. The most Ive seen one sell for was $10k.

If its straight, paint and interior are good, and has fairly low kms, I reckon you could get somewhere in the $7k-$9k range. All comes down to demand - there arent many of us into the utes, and apart from a sticker kit they arent much different to any other ute of the era. But I still love them ;-)

Hey,

I recon we are about to have a bit of a boom in prices when it comes to the Sandman utes or good Replicas .They have been under priced for to long now . You get the same feeling of V8 grunt & smell & handling as any other classic car & some of them are now worth 1million bucks . XYGTHO.

I recon you have to start stocking up on GTS rims , HZ GTS dashes etc or anything else , Any suggestions ??

I remember about 6 months - 1 year ago you used to see V8 well body utes in the Sunday times WA Readers mart car
Ute section . (Forget about 1 tunners) It was quite common to see 3 or 4 for sale from prices say 3k- 10k . (Eastern states prices i think are cheaper than Perth) why is that ??

Ive been looking for the past few months & havent been seeing any for sale . people are beginning to realise that they are better off keeping there HQ-HZ because they are underpriced & about to move up in price. Ive seen it happen in property , people realise that they have missed the boat if they want to own a old 30 year classic , so they get in at the bottom end of the scale ie HQ - HZ . which inturn pushes the pirces up.

Yeah - many WB utes sell for more now than they did new.

It will be interesting - I havent seen many Sandman utes for sale in the last 2 years. 2 on ebay and 2 on carsales. I just dont think they will go that high in prices though - would love to be wrong ;-)

The code , The colour was s h i t of the bench all put together cost nothing , ( being a panelbeater
My Spraypainter mate was collecting left over silver from jobs )

It does look close to AZTEC SILVER which is a HZ SANDMAN Colour

I can tell you that the cars we were working on at the time he was collecting the paint were mainly Mercedes & Bmws
Oh and he told me to buy 1 extra litre of Merc silver to make it up a bit .

Hass , I diddnt get my ute blasted because some of the paint underneath was very good . Which means: there was no cracking
or blistering . I just wizzed it right back flat & Two Pac primed straight over it .

I believe that if I had of had it blasted it would of added a extra month to the repair time .
It took me 150 hours to get ready for paint and i did not get it blasted .

If you have rust you can take the surrounding area back to bare metal then weld up the rust
and then blend your filler up to the primer edge . It is a little bit of an art but it can be done .

If you need to know anything else about panelbeating repairs just let me know .

Thanks

Rusty

Howdy mate.
yep gettin there. Working on the turquoise one at the moment.

Put a nice rebuilt 308 in her. (so doesnt have the original engine). The other one does though!

and tarred the rust free floor, and restored the original covert / chamois interior.

Then courtesy of this old man of the road who sacrificed himself so that another 3 vans could live,

I put a shmicko front end on it.

Waiting on the rims to be restored. (taking ages), then itll be the suspension, then a new paint job. have new decals waiting to go on so hopefully wont be too much longer.

Then maybe ill get around to the other one!

As to how many HZ sandmans were made, I wouldnt have a clue. I reckon DR Terry or Byron would be your best bet. Id like to know myself.

Cheers.

Thats a nice front clip hainzy .

Hear are the photos I promised of the ute with the new front overiders .( which i think look totally awesome)

Next I have a brand new Sandman 18v Slate black hoodlining going in & numerous other stuff on the cards aswell

I dont drive the ute much any more as we have 3 cars so she gets driven on sunny days for special occasions . Most of the time
she is garaged .

I have a question , I still have the sandman guard stickers but because I have the GTS guards they dont fit in the spot where they should go

I was thinking about putting them just above where they should go (above the line)

does anyone know if any one has done this on a HZ sandman Ute or van with GTS guards . Because there are utes and vans out there with GTs guards.

Cheers Rusty

Rusty,

Did your chin scoop line up first time, or were there gaps that needed sorting?

Mine requires about 4 thin washers to pack out the front corner to prevent the rear of the spoiler hanging over into the wheel arch.

jabba,

At first i thought it was never going to fit and then decided to urathane the front spoiler on and then use 2 inch tape to make sure it all held tight & even vice grips
to hold flush . then wait 24 hours ( used a hole tube)

Then I had to panel fill any imperfections a shave off a fill a bit hear & there untill the front spoiler was perfect and neat . (Sometimes you just have to make it fit )Use fiberglass to make your own shapes, then I panelled the whole car 100 odd hours later
and Primed the car all together with the spoiler attached, then painted the spoiler on the car when it was resprayed.

To answer your question . Mate it needed sorting bigtime.

Cheers

Rusty.

Thanks for info. I bit the bullet and did some trimming and filling.

Pulling the spoiler hard against the front, the point at back hung over arch by around 1cm. Re-aim so that new end point would be along same line, and trim a wedge from trailing edge to just behind rounded edge. Left hand spoiler(without the ridge at end) sat a little odd, so shaped to sit around radiator opening.

Was left with around 1/2 cm max gap at front corners, and a minor edging and reshape at rear (along with filling the gap in the middle). Nu-tek the big gaps and prime, just have to skim fill the rough bits and finish sand and paint. But is looking heaps better already. Have stayed with screw fastening for the moment (as will do full repaint eventually).
