Hi Guys,
I am having a few issues with my Vectra.
It is a 1998 Holden Vectra GL JS 1 with 173000KMS
Took it in for a service the other day and I asked them to check out the Coolant Reservoir as it was losing coolant and the car was also vibrating on start up until I hit about 1100RPM.
They said that the Head Gasket was leaking into the Cooling System and this is why I was losing the coolant.
Anway, I was just wondering how much you all think this might cost to get fixed? I have had to have the cars head gasket replaced once before but I dont know if it was leaking into the cooling system last time as I wasn't losing coolant? If it is too expensive I might just look at selling it as is, hopefully I should get about $5000.00 for it as is.
Thanks for your help Guys.

Hi Adam,
(1) Ask GMH what it will cost to fix. Thats the best solution. It cant be THAT expensive. (2) If its too pricey sell the car. (3) WIth teh $5000 you get from the VECTRA buy a good HQ V8 (4.2 or 5.0). No emission laws, huge boot, run well, sound great and the cost of a gasket pair is around $30.00. You can also get parts from Kmart, AutoOne, or Repco Sat/Sun Arvo. You wont get that service from GMH.
Cheers John

Have you kept coolant/corrosion inhibitor up to it with regular servicing? It may also be corroded as a result meaning a new/replacement head. Where are you? Id definitely get further advice though. $2500 sounds steep though, but id not be surprised if it cost you well over $1000 to repair. All said, youd probably get a good secondhand engine fitted for less than $1500 and with less kM.

Hi Guys,
It is a 2.2L 4 Cylinder :-)
When I checked the oil before it went in, it was a milky brown but I havent checked it since and cant check it now since it is dark and I dont have a flashlight.
Is their anything I can do just to stop the vibration so I can take it to one of those Cash for Cars places? Or even better, anyone from the ACT / NSW want to buy it?
- Adam
