Hi meecar.

The engine mounts are totally different & you will also need the VN steering rack to clear the exhaust system on the drivers side.

Its easier to fit the whole K-member, including the steering rack, when doing the V6 conversion.

Hi Jim5.0

You mentioned in the other post that the VN K-member or compressor would not fit the VK.

AFAIK all VB to VP K-members will interchange & VN compressor clearance is not an issue. The VR/VS K-member will also fit the earlier cars, but there are then dramas with the castor angle.

Ive been involved in several of these conversions & its amazing what is interchangeable.

Dr Terry.

Hello Dr Terry,
You misunderstood me I said that if you fit the V6 onto the VK K member you will not be able to use the A/C compressor <as it will hit the left engine mount>.

All I was trying to say was that if he chose to stay with the VK cross member it would cost him a lot more money than using the VN-VS K member.

The confusion probably comes from the fact that I said that you cannot use the VN gearbox cross member in the VK body < because where it bolts to the body are two different heights>

The beauty of owning any Commodore is that they are built like Meccano sets with lots of different holes for different options.

get the loom from the V6 car. best get a donor car. smashed VNs can be had for less than $500, and will have absolutely everything you need, except for the gearbox crossmember, and the tailshaft to suit.
Both of which shouldn't cost more than $300.

Does this mean that I can use a VK K-Frame to replace the bent K-Frame in my VP?
Or should I get a K-Frame from another VP to save any dramas?
Thanks

Any V6 VN to VS K frame should do the trick. VK one has the red/blue/black engine mounts.

This is of course if your VP is a V6 engined car.
