A couple of months back a customer of mine supplied two unopened(left & right) exterior mirror packages (stalk, mirror, gasket etc.) for me to fit to their car. Upon opening the first pack, the glass fell out of the mirror into my hand. The stalk had alot of noticeable imperfections in the chrome. Consequently it was all returned from place of purchase (Restorers hotline, Adelaide) and exchanged. The same customer returned today with their replacements for me to fit. Upon fitting the right side I noted that the attaching screws supplied in the kit are far shorter than the originals and one, with spring washer attached, was not long enough as it would not reach the stalk to be tightened. Secondly, there are no fitting instructions supplied for the fitment of the left side. The left side mirror and stalk does not attach to the door in the same place as it did on the right and never did. It cannot be seen out of from that position and it needs to be brought forward to be used and seen out of. So if the mirror was installed in the correct position it cannot be attached with screws as a screwdriver will not fit inside the door and the correct bolts should be supplied. These mirrors are also sold as being for Monaros but the left mirror was not an option as an accessory on HK HT HG coupe models. Does Rare Spares care? Does Rare Spares assume that the purchasers of their products knows where and how the part they buy is to be correctly fitted? Or are they more interested in just getting half the job done because it can be cheaply done and an easy profit can be made.

i have been shopping at rare spares for about 10 years, some things come with fitting instructions and some things dont, some things fit perfect, some things dont. but what you are saying is abit stupid in my opinion. you should be thanking them for the stuff they bring out for our old cars, not making smart ass comments on easy profits....and unfortunately mate, some things you just have to work out for yourself!!!

HOLD MY HAND. If you figured it out then good for you. Not all off us do unfortunately. Is that what its all about? Buy our product and once you leave the shop, you figure it out because we know you may need to modify here and there?
HQ350KING. How could what i say be stupid mate? Supplying screws not long enough to reach the stem? Glass falling out? No smart arse comments here mate. Just voicing facts. I have to listen to people whinge everytime they purchase something and it doesnt fit like the original. Are the parts reproduction? or alternatives. I certainly wont be using any cheap alternative on my faithful restoration. Unless of course the quality gets alot better. Its not all bad. I find the grille emblem inserts to be fantastic, other stuff falls well short. I can assure you people dont purchase their parts with the when i fit it ill have to work it out for myself mindset.

I fully agree with HKTG Parts Recovery.
I fitted the Rare Spares mirrors, been on about two months, have to keep cleaning them to prevent rust spots.
And yes, the lack of fitting instructions and correct bolts for the left one is just a joke, because most people will be fitting them to cars which have never had a left mirror fitted.
Rare Spares have a lot of good stuff but they need to fix this saspo because these mirrors a not up to scratch and for the money they are rubbish.
RARE SPARES - are you listening?

Just went through my receipts and find that I have spent just over $1000 with Rare Spares (mail order from Homebush) and everything else Ive bought is very good, except for the Lion Badges which have a milled edge which should be smooth.
Just to add more to the mirror story, the screw heads on the mirror backs are rusting and rust is appearing on the lower edge of the holders on the mirror side.

Sorry for the late reply but I have been on holidays , yes the first batch of mirrors where not up to scratch and only a few got in to circulation we are now on our 3rd batch of mirrors and these are the first complaints we have had about quality since the first batch.
HKTG Parts Recovery Yes the screw should be longer in fact we supply ½” and it should be 5/8” an oversight on our part but the same parts book that gave me the length also said that there is only one screw to fit either side if you think we should use a bolt on the left hand side we will have a look at that. As for the fitting instructions maybe you could help us out in this area as you say you have fitted both sides. Some of our parts may be considered alternatives but some are equal to or in some cases better than original and we do not have the luxury of amortising the parts over a model run as GMH did so sometimes we have to compromise on the way we manufacture parts. Frank Lee I have sent you an email
