Good score Karl... nice colour combo as well... Panama green with Buckskin trim... hardest part will be working out which colour stripes to go with...

Because it is Panama Green (HZ) doesnt that make it DX5 bright blue/blue green/dark blue decal? Or is the trim code a consideration as well for decals? Edited by user Monday, 11 January 2010 10:15:54 AM(UTC)

Panama green is DX5 for the later stuff. Not 100% sure about a really early HZ like this one.

If it was me id budget on $25k to do it properly with you doing a lot of the "putting it back together" work. It will be significantly cheaper if you dont try to do it 100% original.

Should look something like this when restored, Panama green HZ with early DX5 plum / purple / dark blue decals. Personally I think these look really good on the green but I havent seen an old original photo of any Panama green HZs let alone one with early DX5 decals on it. Here is a photo of a Supermint green HZ with correct DY4 decals... while they stand out... to me they dont go as well with the green... would be good to see a Panama green HZ with the later DX5 bright blue / blue green / dark blue decals to compare against.

Yeah saw these pic around the web (fantastic piece of machine) and 1st thought i had for the panama green was the mint one. which not so much to my taste so im glad its turn out to be the lighter green. (the actual colour). As for the decals i agree with what ya saying there sean.
Byron dont know if ya got my email? but anyone help is great on the topic of the possibility that the head is of a 308 and the block a 253. now the reason i asked is due to the fact that 2 barrel was the original on the 253 and 4 barrel for the 308. but having the 4 barrel fits perfect to the head but the block as 253 is that posible??? Maybe thats why the id numbers dont match. is this particalar Sandman suppose to be a 253 or 308 Byron???
Cheers Karl

L32 and M20 means yours is originally a 253 4sp Karl.
Bargains are still around if you know what you are looking at and the owner doesnt know what he has... My HX Sandman van was advertised as a V8 Holden P/Van, I had to drive to Tamworth to pick it up but only forked out seven greenies for it. Been forking out yellow and green bills ever since though.

253 and 308 blocks are identical externally, and the heads themselves are exactly the same. So a 308 manifold will bolt straight onto a 253 and its a common modification. GMH did this themselves with the 253 from WB onwards. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

DY3 Yellow/orange/red
DY4 Bright yellow/light orange/dark orange
Cant say for HX?

Thanks for that. HZ also had the following;
DY6 - dark blue/purple/plum.(but I dont have the part number).
DL7 - Delete StripesI am led to believe that HX didnt have DY6, but I found a reference to it only for; Aquaris - 17778-1914, Id like this to be confirmed or corrected. Edited by user Wednesday, 13 January 2010 3:37:31 AM(UTC)

DY6 is not plum/purple/darkblue. Its purple/plum/dark blue. Same as HX DX5. But outer colours swapped. I have a NOS sample of the DY6. (has DY6 printed on the back.
To me it looks like DY6 replaced the DX5 which was HX and early HZ by the looks. |

Not that i am aware of mate. Byron may know more. I dont think he had much info on the HX stripes at this stage. I think we will be all hanging for the book! =) |

My HZ parts manual (dated October 1977 so it must be an early HZ manual) shows DX5 as Plum/Purple/Dark blue.
There is no mention of DY6 or DL7. Not sure when the extra codes were added as I dont have any supplements. I understand that it wasnt until later in the HZ range that deleting was given a code as the colours were seen by many purchases as a bit dated.
