Sean, The DY6 NOS sample I have appears to be the same colours as the DX5 HX from what i can see. I do not have a NOS sample of the DY5 but looking at other people reproductions they appear to be very close. Or maybe they did not get it correct? I dont know for sure. I guess its possible that the set I have seen is in fact not DX5 HX repro but in fact DY6 Repro but with the colours in the wrong order.
Yes the DY6 is purple/plum/dark blue.
What colour samples do you have for the DX5 HX? Id be interested to see some. If you could help out with a NOS sample that will be returned than Im happy to do you a very cheap deal on some stripes.
Cheers
Jason
This is a poor reproduction DY6 decal on a Mint Julip HX van.

This is a blow up of the DX5 decal on the back of the Mint Julip van on the HX Sandman brochure. You can see the plumb around the outside, then the purple and dark blue in the middle.

This is the correct HX DX5 decals done by Sandman-Decals. Excellent reproductions. These are on the Panama Green HZ.

Nos DY6 decals, colours are exactly the same but the positioning of the plum and purple have been swapped around.

I have a list of all the HX paint colours and what decals were used on them except Bordeaux Blue. These are confirmed original decals seen on original cars and I have copies of most of the photos proving it. For example I have original photos of Papaya Sandmans with DY1, DY3 and DY4 decals on them.
Here is a Aquarius HX whit original DX5 decals on it. If you look at it you can see the plum, purple, blue layout. As the decal fade and wear the top layers of ink wear off leaving the bottom layers exposed. The first layer and outside colour of plum can clearly be seen.

I knew from personal experience the colours were different but just couldnt remember how. Back in 84 the panel beater repairing the damaged front gaurd on my Mint Julip HX van had three goes at getting the correct decal from Motorama Holden at Springwood. It was as confusing back then as it is now.
At one stage in 84 I owned a Barbados Green 202 4sp HQ Sandman van, a Mandarin Red 253 4sp HJ Sandman van and a Mint Julip 308 4sp HX Sandman van all at the same time until I sold the HQ to a mate who had just got his license. Ahh for the old days when vans were dirt cheap cause nobody wanted them any more.......
