Hi all,
I need to drill out some spot welds on my HG Van to do a trans tunnel modification... just wondering what size bit to use for the welds... Should i just use a bit the same as the spot welds, or should i use something slightly larger to remove the heated , old metal ?
Going to put in a Turbo 400...
Cheers for any advice here.

There is a drill bit that you can buy to do this job. It has a small drill point in the middle & a cutter on the outer edge of the tool. As you drill into the spot weld, the outer edge cutter will cut a ring at the approx outer edge of the weld. It will not remove all the metal like a normal drill, so you have material to weld when refitting panel. Once done, you may need to persuade the metal apart. Should be able to get one from any reasonable tool/engineering suppliers. Enjoy.

you can buy a spot weld drill from most body supply shops, use that if you are keen, or if you are like me, just use a 5" grinder with a 1mm cutting blade, or a plasma cutter, but then again im a drag racer, so it doesnt really matter how much we cut out of a car!

Spot weld drill bits come in 6mm and 8mm. Buy a good quality cobalt one. They are used by most quality accident crash repairers.
