New laws from 1/8/09.

http://www.news.com.au/s...4,25790506-29277,00.html

These politicians are fools. How would they know whether a car has been lowered after 1/8/09 if the vehicle owner doesnt carry the mod letter in the glovebox??

Whilst theres some truth to their claims regarding structural integrity and whatnot, it is yet another misguided and worthless attampt to appease public outcry by further restricting modified car lovers.

Silly modern cars.

5CM? LOL! How many people are going to get pulled over with 3 fat mates in the car...Or if you want to lower your car in NSW you just need to pull into the KFC drive through and get a bucket of chicken.Ha Ha!

I spoke to a police officer yesterday and he agreed, how are the police going to police it?

Its sheer stupidity of this lame Labor government clutching at straws again.

Either they allow all car modifications or not at all.

Its like the GPS systems, you cant have anything hanging from your mirror because it blocks your view but you can stick a big ugly GPS system to your front window and drive around playing with the touch screen all you want...Stupid laws!

5cm is two inches in the old money. Lower your Commodore Executive 2 inches lower than FE2 height and thats a fair whack lower than stock non FE2 and still within the law.

The old way used to be nothing lower than the bottom of the wheel rim but in these days of big diameter rims with 35 series tyres that stipulation became unrealistic.

Look on the bright side it also pertains to raising a vehicle so it could potentially outlaw idiots driving around in their 4WDs with their bumper bars at head height.

I am making a petition to change the limit to 1cm and you must have your mother with you in the car at all times.

I think this is a great idea.....anything to get another hoon off the road and save another life.....which obviously is beyond most of the above posts.....why is reality so difficult some times....think of the community at large ...not yourself.....?
Ill admit it would be somewhat hard to police...but it does give police the opportunity to lope on a yellow sticker to anyone with attitude.....

Might be hard to police now but in say 5 years time it may not as any car less than 5 years old that is lowered without the safety certificate will be easy to prove defectable and it will get easier with each passing year.

The law is for raising as well as lowering!
So are you saying anyone who puts airshocks in their cars are hoons?
Or what about the people with 4x4s that lift them up for more clearance in the bush, they hoons as well?
Some people have hoons on the brain!

I had airshocks on ute ...didnt seem to raise it...
as for 4WDs most of these are driven on the road 99% of the time....they cost more to import....more to run...and do more damage to roads , cyclists, pedestrians.
If they want to raise them ...I say put there speed limit down to 80km. and double there regos.

Here we go, another uneducated communist 4wd bashing Prius driving greenie mouthing off....

Most 4wds are driven on the road 99% of the time... SO WHAT... this affects you how??

4wds cost more to import... More than what??? Again, this affects you HOW??

4wds cost more to run... SO WHAT... again, how does this affect you??

4wds do more damage to roads... Are you for real? Damage to roads is done by 40+ Ton trucks not 3 Ton 4wds.

4wds do more damage to cyclists/pedestrians... Again, are you for real? Youll be just as dead if you step out in front of a Prius doing 80kph as you would be if it was a 4wd.

Maybe old Holden drivers should be restricted to 80kph and have their regos doubled as well... after all a 350 HT costs more to run, spews out far more pollutants and with their thicker steel panels and squarer edges do far more damage to cyclists/pedestrians who are stupid enough to get in the way of one.

Cars dont kill people... that responsibility lies with the idiot behind the wheel or the idiot crossing the road.

OMG Absinth, its just his opinion, let him speak just as you have above in your blurb.it might not be right or wrong, but who is to say you are right or wrong either??
i cant stand 4WDs, and they should be taxed off the roads as you really dont need a 4wd to drop the kids off at skool.

normally I wouldnt bother replying to you Absinth, which I gather is spelt wrong ...its obviously absent. As for your education, being able to read basic english isnt obviously one of your strong points.

The fact the moderator hasnt deleted your post yet...surprises me...

1. This is a public forum, everyone is entitled to there opinon,
however irrelevant you might think it is.

2. 4wds cost more to import ...therefore costs the Australia more...

to carry the same number of people a car is more efficent.
Try looking on the freeway in the morning....see how many cars/4wds are single occupants...?

3. 4wds are a lot worse for pedestrians.
4. No I dont or ever have voted for the greens...?
5. Dont and wont buy a Toyota Pirus, it would probably take ten
years for it to be carbon neutral anyway....

I would be curious to know what you drive or go to work in musksell, do you carpool?
Your extensive knowledge on our transport statistics/ import duties / running costs per vehicle, it amazes me for someone who has been on our roads less than a year!

How old are some people here? I think ive already seen some name calling, and thats pathetically childish. Come on guys, you know its just opinions, words on a screen, nothing more.

Now, im all for getting rid of hoons because they give us a bad name. However, many laws in place to prevent hooning are blanket bans that lump enthusiasts in with the hoons.

This law might be AIMED at stopping tossers in geminis with no springs, but once again, bean counters and analysists who work for the powers that be, have no experience in the real world.

I think, perhaps, theyre actually disgruntled pixies of some sort.

With these news laws, my HQ would be illegal. Even lowered this thing is still like a 4wd.

Oops, shouldnt have said that, some hippie is going to try and stop me driving on the road.....

OMG we wreck its just my opinion. I hate Gelati and poxy pink and white Bedford vans playing crappy music but that doesnt mean they should be taxed off the roads. You also dont need a 300kw Clubsport to take the kids to school either.... whats your point?

Musksell

"2. 4wds cost more to import ...therefore costs the Australia more..." This statement is so stupid its not even worth commenting on!

"to carry the same number of people a car is more efficent.
Try looking on the freeway in the morning....see how many cars/4wds are single occupants...?"

FACT. My 8 seater Toyota Landcruiser is far more fuel efficient than my 5 seater 308 HX Holden and about the same as our Ford Territory. It is mostly used for its intended purpose as a 4wd and to tow our caravan on holidays which it does far more safely than a bloody crapadore would. We dont use it to take the kids to school or go shopping, we have a car for that.

"3. 4wds are a lot worse for pedestrians." Utter crap. Try backing that statement up with some reliable statistically correct facts.

"spelt wrong"
"As for your education, being able to read basic english isnt obviously one of your strong points."

SPELT is an ancient species of wheat. spelt wrong ... is simply bad spelling and grammar. Efficent is spelled efficient and english is spelled with a capital E.

When I called you "another uneducated communist 4wd bashing Prius driving greenie" I meant that you were uneducated on 4wd statistics, not that you were an uneducated person per se.
