as above, bought a 94 exec at auction, price was right, but no key! how do you start it? new key? new barrel and key? i want to wreck anyway, would rather not spend money on it if i dont need to... how do thieves hot wire them? would a new second hand column do the trick and if i go that way will the key need to be reprogrammed? cheers

Youll need a keyhead to match the BCM to disable the security system.
Best off not bothering if its only to wreck out. Tilt-tray will be quite a bit cheaper.
However, if you find someone wrecking the same year model, and same trim level VR (luxury ones had a different to the base models, and early/late differ too) then you could get the barrel, key & keyhead off them.
If you dont need to steer it, you can pull the back off the ignition switch & turn it, but without a valid keyhead in it, the BCM wont disable the security.

if you can bust the barrell leave the ignigtion on i think for 30 or it might be 45 minutes and the alarm light will stop flashing then it will start, this is a over ride if a key pad stuffs up. pete.

^^ That will work if it has the timed over-ride on the BCM.
Check the passenger door pillar, if it has a key lock in it (like VPs and quite a few VRs have), then the timed-override wont work, as it requires the key lock to be turned to disable the security.
Assuming you only want to start it, and not drive it, then using the over-ride method, you will only need to pull the black plastic bit off the bottom of the barrel (2 small screws) and turn the centre of it with a screwdriver.

Drill out the 2 rivets and bridge the wires. Its just a switch.
