I went to the Bayswater store in Vic. to buy a horn contact to suit EJ/EH. Paid for it, looked at it & asked for my money back. The item quality & fit were terrible. It appears that an item has been sourced that was already produced, that happened to be a close fit. On closer inspection, I found it had been wrapped with masking tape around the barrel to increase the diameter to make it a snug fit in the hole of the steering wheel.
Although this item is not visible & may function when fitted, this is a very ordinary example of reproduction items that the Rares' name was built on.
I assume that this item will not be reviewed/reworked to a factory standard, but asking $35 for it?
Similair repro. horn contacts for Corvettes in the States sell for $15, & the item is as factory. Yes, they have a far larger market, but if it wasn't of good quality, it wouldn't sell. That can happen here too.
I have always been of the opinion that if a repro. item is 'as factory' produced, I am happy to pay for it. If it is not of acceptable quality, I will not pay anything for it.
(Please understand that I am more concerned of the extremely poor quality of the item rather than the cost).
If Rares are going to be increasing their range of repro. items, please, please spend the time & resources to research & get it right, the first time.
Regards, John.

I am sorry you were not happy with the horn contact I am not that familiar with it as it is a buy in product as the volume does not warrant us making it. Even so it should be of good quality I have instigated an IR which means it will have to go through our quality system to see if we can have it improved or we may just drop it which would be unfortunate as I believe the functionality is ok.

Thanks for the quick reply Les. I will be interested in your thoughts of the item.

This horn contact is a real problem for us as it is not a big seller and does not warrant us to tool up but it is a constant seller about 2/mth. We have asked the manufacturer to improve the quality in the next order, in the meantime we will look at another source. We have decided to leave it on the market as its functionality is ok and there is no substitute at the moment and there is a need
