My WB sat a bit low at the front when I bought it and now with the weight of the aircon compressor etc re-installed (thanks Dr Terry!)it is sitting even lower. Took the car for its first family outing over the weekend and it rode like a dray. The front springs have either sagged, are chopped or lowered springs. With only a casual examination they look like they were originally black and have been there a while. The back springs seem to be about the correct height.
The unladen static hub to guard measurement for the front is 360mm while a susp bloke I spoke to said it should be more like 400mm in std unladen trim.
I just want a standard set-up with a smooth ride, so must I install $150 new springs that are painted in groovy bright colours or can I just buy 2nd-hand original WB V8 (or HQ-WB V8?) springs and give 'em a wash and throw them in? (which I would prefer to do).
How can you tell that the 2nd hand springs are not stuffed? Is there a measurement for uninstalled std springs?
Thanks,
Phil.

There probably is a measurement for standard spring length. I think if you go to the trouble of changing them you would be better off going for new ones. New springs and shocks and it should handle well.

Aftermarket springs are much easier to fit as well! You need spring compressors for the originals.

I may be wrong but I think it is not so much the length of the spring but but the pounds per inch of travel. If you measure a heavy duty spring against a stock spring you will find the stock spring will be longer?? AL.

Mine sits a fair bit lower at the front than that.
Ive been going thru the Gregorys HJ manual (dont have one for WB, assume theyre pretty much the same?) and the replacement of front springs sounds a bit like rocket science. I think Ill need a spring compressor to get the original springs out, that seems pretty straight forward, as does getting the shocks out, but what else will I need to get the job done - especially the screwed expanding tool to expand the gap between the upper and lower ball joints to loosen the lower ball joint?
