I have a 2/73 sydney built monaro gts4 and there is some questions over its originality because its vin starts with 8N69RCH------Q but its passenger side plate reads 80469QR. So my questions are 1/ When did they start making gts4s at the sydney plant 2/ when did they change the vin no from 8N69 to 8Q69 (the monaro story says early HQ Monaros had 8N69 vin nos) 3/ who can I give the numbers to to check either way Thanks Ron

All HQ GTS 4 doors are Kingswoods and hence they all have 80469 on the BODY plate. Early examples even have 8N69 as the start of the VIN. Release date is March 1973 so a 2/73 is not out of the question for an XV4 (special vehicle package code on Kingswood for GTS 4 door with 253 or 308). The TRIM code is the thing that will identify the car as a normal Kingswood or an XV4 optioned Kingswood. Kingswoods usually have a E trim code, and XV4 will end in W,X,Y or Z.

80469 is just the code for V8 kingswood, which is what a 4 door GTS starts life as
not to many were made with 8N69 all were early 73
what is the trim code? it should end in X or Y (or maybe Z?)
sorry for the vauge answers, youll get a proper reply soon

Feb 73 for Mar release July 73 is the earliest 8Q69 I have recorded As Byron has written the trim code is the clincher.

How accurate are Holdens records ? In the letter of authentisity from Holden the first line says MODEL 1973 Holden HQ Kingswood sedan-(80369) Engine 253c.i.(4146cc) 8 Cylinder-(L32) Transmission 307:1 3 Speed Manual Transmission
So isnt a 80369 a 6 cylinder kingswood ? Why does it then say on the next line it is a V8
The compliance plates say 80469 M20 What is the code for a 3 speed The plates have never been off the car and I helped strip the body and took detailed photos of the blackouts which was the original paint.
So after all these years how can Holden say it is a 3 speed when the plates say 4 speed
can anyone shed some light on this subject Thanks Ron

code for 3 speed manual is M15
standard motor/box for this car would have been 253/M20
belive your plates not the letter

Just ignore the Holden letter. They always seem to be wrong. You are lucky they didnt tell you it was a low comp 253 (L33). It is possible the car is a mock up and they are actually telling you the truth, but very unlikely as what they have given you cannot be the case as a 369 is a 6cyl HQ Kingswood sedan which could not have had a 253 in it. Contact the Holden Monaro Register and you will get a much better and correct response.
On the same note, I recently sent Holden the VIN numbers off the 2 x 1972 Dandenong built HQ Kingswood utes with L30 engines (one of which was the Ewet). I am dying to see what they come back with, or would love to know what goes through the mind of the person who accesses the records when they see that both had 350 engines.

They are pretty common in the scheme of things, although much less common than 308 4spd Kingswood ute. Both normally wearing a Sandman stickers and stripes though!

No idea. It was very close in build configuration and was sold by the same dealer who sold the Ewet.
