Gday all, Bleed the brakes on the HX today to get rid of all the old fluid, and was happy to find that it has had new rotors, machined drums new wheel cylinders and new pads all round and looks like a new master cylinder. Anyway there is a great pedal when the car isnt started but as soon as i start it the pedal moves towards the floor a heap, the brakes work great but you just have to push the pedal down heaps.. whats going on?

I would be checking how much clearance the pushrod has on the piston of the master cylinder.

FastEHHolden hi, I think its the same answer, brake booster ,if hes got no vacuum leaks (including manifold)and has bled the brakes correctly it may be a good chance to be the booster.

Its been like this for the whole week that i have owned the car LOL thats why i bleed them hoping that it would fix it, but it didnt.. and yes i did do it correctly... Im pretty sure there are no vacuum leakes but i will double check. so are boosters the sort of thing you can pull apart and fix or do i just get a new one?
Cheers Mark

I wouldnt pull apart a booster If ya dont know what ya doing, just take the booster and master cylinder to a reputable brake shop, they will test it and fix it. They may even have one on the shelf ready to go. I also advise to get the master re-sleeved and kitted while ya at it! CHEERS!!

Mark do you still have the problem? Something easily overlooked is that the handbrake cable is too tight before the rear brakes have been adjusted if this is the case the rear brakes are not getting adjusted properly. Once adjusted properly re bleed your brakes starting at the furthermost wheel first then if required reset the brake fail switch. Otherwise grab yourself some brake hose clamps and clamp off the brakes at each hose until you find the offending wheel. some times it can be as silly as a very loose wheel bearing."Word of warning" dont drive with the brake hose clamps on. cheers.
