Gidday All, Wondering if someone could help me shed any light on the stamped numbers on two 307 SBC blocks, they are as follows, 30740156 K10 26 AND 30714373 K05 01 Cheers Al

30740156 + 30714373 are just australian eng nums i think.canada casting for both,dont know the date thingy.can only be 1967-73 2bolt blocks. I THINK. Jim in Adelaide...Hindsight is bad vision! Edited by user Wednesday, 7 April 2010 2:05:11 AM(UTC)

307 =fitted to a holden. 40156 dandenong melb motor . k = mckinnon plant canada. 10 26 = oct 26th. 14373 pagewood sydney. 05 01 =may 1st

The first 307 is early Dandenong HK. Out of a Belmont, Kingswood or Premier. The engine was assembled on 26/10/67 in the McKinnon, Canada plant.
The second 307 is from a later 1968 HK, so could be Brougham or Monaro or GTS. Somewhere around October 1968, approximately in chassis number HK34xxxSS. Engine was assembled on 1/5/68 in the McKinnon, Canada plant.

Gidday All, Cheers for that info, the chassis number is in the ballpark for the Sydney motor HK35xxSS. So these motors were built in Canada and then shipped here fully assembled, ready to be slotted in I gather? Is there a way of telling when the car was built, its a GTS by the way? Cheers Al

Yes they were built complete minus a few bits and sent here in batches, and stamped with the Holden bit of the engine number when used in a car.
You can get an estimate of the build date of a car by the numbers on the ID plates, however that can vary a bit depending upon different factors. Check for date code numbers on the front crossmember, steering box, steering column etc.

Jan/Feb 68 probably. Its the 156th 307 or 327 fitted to a vehicle in the Dandenong plant. 327s were fitted to Chevs and Pontiacs at the same time.

I have a late Dec sold 30745xxx k0708 so was their about 5000 motors fitted from Jan to Dec in 68

Thatd be about right if 30745xxx is correct for a Dec 1968 HK. 5000 x 307 HK, 327 HK and 327 CKD from Dandenong for 1968. Pagewood got to about 3x717500 (from 30710000) by HT release. Its quite revealing how the engines can be all over the place though as you start collecting them. The Pagewood K0501 from the first post in this thread, I have a 307180xxK0502 here which is an early HT engine, yet it was built 1 day after the mid-late 1968 HK engine. Just shows you how GMH stockpiled them and used them as needed. I also have 307174xxK0702 ie built 2 months later but used a month or 2 earlier.

Have the original service book with the 24/12/68 delivery date and no the original owner and engine number is right. Not a bad christmas present. Also have a accessories brochure that shows a windscreenprotector made of strong plastic that fits over the screen and a set of 4 specially designed suitcases to fit in the boot.A matching hat case was also available. Have you ever came across these.

Nick Gontas has most accessories with his Pinaroo beige HK Monaro. If you go to the Nationals I think hes taking it there.
