only thing that doesnt look sandman is the door cards.

Because its HZ get the tyre placard part number also. Also scratch the paint on the door handles. See if its chrome underneeth? It shouldnt be.

Like you say id tag details is really what you will have to wait for.

Cheers
Jason

Cetainly is a Sandman. GVW gets you almost there, but the tyre placard is the clincher. I know it could be changed but everything else points there too.

big resto as well, pricing would be a major for me as well, if you search back a few months in the for sale section of the forum, a guy by the name of neil sanford had 2 vans for sale HX sandman and a spare to help with the resto which was a reasonably good van, and he wanted $5k for both which i think was good value when i checked them out for a guy i know that wanted one in WA. each to their own i guess

Im not afraid of a little hard work and Ive got a couple of good mates that are into cars as well and have already offered their help and support. The seller is looking for around the $5k mark as well. The one thing that puzzles me is that there is no XX7 or XU3 anywhere on the plate. Is that normal?

Yes "normal" to not have that(XX7) only one assembly plant(Acacia Ridge)that did that. There is a fair misunderstanding about that.It is not the defining
proof of a sandman as many believe,as a matter of fact, there isnt ANY one
thing that is,to my knowledge.Seating capacity (2)is the best I know of
BUT it still doesnt mean it is.ALL THINGS MUST LINE UP AND THAT ONE SEEMS TO.

i wouldnt have a clue about XX7 or XU3 as they are just a plumbers van with a set of gauges, sports wheel and a full length headliner to me, byron or greg or DOC or someone will explain the XX7 deal to you, i think its acacia ridge or something like that, i dunno lol@me??
good luck with project if you buy it
