ive been doing some work on the ambo chassis this weekend, now i'm upto the fuel tank and tank straps, they are a lovely rust brown colour atm and i'd like to make the all nice a new looking again

so my question is what did they look like new? were they painted or were they zinc plated or cad plated?

It would have been silver zinced.

They were terne coated. Terne is an alloy coating of lead and tin used to cover steel, in the ratio of 20% tin and 80% lead.

thanks pete, can you still get this coating done? or is there a better coating i should use instead

as long as it looks close to what it would have looked new id be more than happy
