Hi,
Don't know what you are on about as I have never seen a banjo diff with a rear plate, they never had them.
Edit ( I agree the centre & back plates )
( V8 HG - T banjos had a larger yoke, so the tailshaft or yoke would need to changed to match )
Perhaps there is information elsewhere on this site but here goes;
Banjo diffs of the same ratio are interchangable between models subject to axle splines, however the housings do change to accomadate the different gear set sizes.
for example 3.9- 3.55 - and 3.36 use the same centre housing and crownwheel mounting assembly, obviously you will need to use the appropiate splined side gears to suit which ever axles you use.
3.08 and 2.78 housings are both the same centre and crownwheel assembly.
The small Salsbury Commodore diff gears also fit the Banjo, if you use the right bearings too, but you need to use the Banjo housings.
The first Holdens to be fitted with fine spline axles were the 1973 LJ XU-1's but a previous comment was a bit off as this wasn't mid 73 it was August 73 and to be specific my XU-1 is the earliest I know of in Australia so far, built on the 16th of August.
At the risk of being corrected myself it was during the HX Holdens that fine spline banjos were intorduced on a large scale.
Hope that answers your question, Mike
