Hi fellas,

Took the Chrysler in for service and the repairer told me it has a leaking timing cover due to corrosion (It also covers the water pump). New part is over $1800 (No typing error). I'm looking for a wrecking yard part, but I'm also wondering whether the cover could be welded or braised to repair it. It is Aluminium of alloy. Haven't taken it off for a close look.

Has anyone tried this?

Had to laugh when the wrecker told me he could sell me a 65000 km motor with warranty for $1200. Certainly a better deal than $1800 for a timing cover, but I don't want to store a spare motor.

Good advice by Jvanner, also another thought is to take it to a wheel repair place as they weld alloy components all the time(wheels and such)
I'm sure they'll do it for alot less than the above figures.

Thanks Jim and Jvanner.

Got nothing to lose by giving it a shot! And I'm sick of paying Chrysler.

They wanted $575 for an external mirror. An after market one from US on ebay was going to cost $25.95 plus postage. In the end, I found a Loctite superglue that repaired the broken bit.

david, many US cars shared parts like this

see if you can find a part number on the timing case somewhere, put this number into a google search

you might be surprised what you find!

Dave,

If you have a 318-360 SB go to

www.sparesplanet.com/gen...0-timing-case-cover.html

Its $220 for a brand new one, i will set a code up for you so you get 10% off that price at the check out,, will save you $20, this will also work across the whole site giving you 10% off anything on the site.. CODE is fastlane10 i will leave the code open for 7 days so if anyone from fastlane wants 10% off just use the code.

Dave if you have a big block, pressed metal T/C covers are $50.00 brand new,,, go figure that!.
