Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s)
vb to vk com 5litre diff is a good choice( 4.2 lit & 6cyl type are smaller guts) to put in hk ht hg.
com 5lit axles are heaps thicker & all 28 fine spline
they are 13mm shorter each side (& are the hq j x z type internals)
only problem is, most sle models are 2.78 or 2.60 ratio, which is ok for over 120klm cruising, but unecomomical under that speed, & carrier is different to 3.08 & higher ratios)
308 lsd is reasonably common in these but most are flooged beyond rebuild thesedays!
i fit these into hk ht hgs all the time (obviously cut all the brackets off & weld saddles in place to suit hk ht hg track.)
(i dont bother with disc crap (as not much advantage, although h/brake cables are now available to adapt, for cuppla hundred bux
but also have to change pipe ends to metric to suit.)
BEST way to go is to just fit hq backing plates on with all standard hq rear drums,(drill to com stud size) shoes & w/cyls, & brake pipes.
then fit your original hk ht hg h/brake cables.
then hq discs & callipers up front.
then drum type axle seals & ya ready ta go
oh & get hq ute/van/statey v8 t/shaft shortened to suit(coz they are 2.5mm wall instead of 2mm)cost about 90 bux to cut & balance plus unis
then its compatable with original ktg booster & m/cyl as is!
this then gives you easily accessible parts you can do road side repairs & just buy std stuff from bursons or repco or wreckers etc.to maintain without modifying anything else
any hq - z internals are easily obtained & can change ratio s to suit
its all heaps easier than it sounds, once done
youl just have metric nuts for rear & std nuts for front
any more info, dont hesitate to contact dirty davo

HK HT HGs. i drive em every day! why would you bother updating?
easily maintained & can use & abuse like no other!
