i have a panelbeater mate who brought 1 for a customers car, he said it took a fair bit of work to make fit

i need 1 for the my HQ van, he said NOT to buy 1 as he wouldn't fit another 1 after the amount of re-work involved in the first 1

he sugested the same as jim, buy the ends only, much less work to fit, and yes being a rares product they DO require some amount of adjusting to make fit

but as he said, there better than a flat peice of steel!

I ended up making my own piece....which took less time and energy to try and fit the "replacement panel"

Hi, from my understanding we did have some issues with these quite some time ago but have since re-tooled them. If any-one still has an old manufacture item if you would care to contact me on 03 9305 4000 I will arrange for an exchange new tooling one to be sent to you.

it was mainly around where the screen meets and the door meets which was the problem...the flat bits were fairly good...

ahhh, i see now we are starting to get a responses from you boys, and about it i may add.
Dave , there is plenty that needs looking at but credit where credit due, some stuff is great and you have to be a little more pro active in getting out there as bob pyz has before
replying as you have above is a great start, just need to get out and look at the problems people have instead of being fobbed off like many have been fobbed before

Without being seen as trying to make excuses we (the Directors) have always been available and approachable to any-one who took the trouble to contact us with a problem, however it seems in the main the feedback thread was being lost between our customers, our retailers and ourselves.
As always I am available to any-one who cares to call me on 03 9305 4000.
I may not necessarily be able to solve your problem but I can assure you I will at least try.
I was a petrol head when I got invovled in this game over 40 years ago and still am with three projects currently on the go so I do appreciate the frustrations of problem parts.
That said I think it is fair to say with the recent dramatic increase in value of a lot of the vehicles we supply components for our customers' expectations and thus the onus on us are somewhat increased

The ebay ad was mine.
Just before it finished I received an email via ebay from Dave Ryan at Rare Spares asking me to call him....which I did. The out come, Rares have given me a credit to the value of what I paid to one of their Qld distributors for the panel.
Dave was extremely helpfull and I would advise anyone with an issue regarding Rares products to call them.
I couldn't be happier...they have turned a potential $220.00 loss into something worthwhile.... all because of a $5.00 ebay ad.
Thanks again Dave.

gday dave ryan 3 questions to you the good the bad & the ugly.first the good. many years ago i did a hq ute and fit these panels on to find out they fit very well with minimal alterations in which i was very happy with.now the bad. i started doing up a monaro a few years back as an eager young man ran off to rare spares and bought up on parts i needed badges rubbers etc big mistake as a few years later to find out half of the badges dont fit the original holes the grill badge is to suit hg not ht which was painted red by the way so off i go to rares to explain "my so called stuff up" which i was told by the fellow behind the counter telling me that "i should have checked" many years earlier .now the ugly. after being told "i should have checked" out i go and buy about 20 genuine badges trying to get 4 half decent ones and a few hundred dollars later i end up with a heap second hand badges and a heap of crappy rs badges. how do you correct that dave

If you would care to call me on Tuesday on 03 9305 4000 I will be happy to try to work through the issue with you to come up with an outcome that is acceptable to us both.
I think I have said before we will stand by our products and try to resolve things if we can.
With respect to the badges we are currently retooling a number of the badges we have had problems with in the past.
Without going into a long story many of them sell in such low volumes it is hard to justify going to injection moulding dies but we have found another manufacturer who thinks they can achieve a better fit and finish than previously.
On a brighter note we have just received the first samples of badges from injection moulding dies.
As for the very low volume badges that don't justify retooloing we will probably end up dropping them from the range.
Sad I think, especially if you need one and are prepared to accept a lesser level of quality than genuine rather than go without, however the way we are thinking at the moment this is the way we will probably go.
Feel free to give me a call on Tuesday or when it suits you.
Cheers
Dave

Just a little more to my post of last night.
With due respect to "gtrpu" and his last post I would just like to clarify the e-bay ad was the means by which we were able to address the situation not the reason for resolving the problem in the manner it was. It enabled us to make contact and work through the situation and reach an outcome we are both happy with.
The result would have been the same had I been contacted directly as I have encouraged any-one who wishes to do so to do.
Anyway, by whatever means, it appears we have arrived at a happy ending.
Cheers
Dave

Correct Dave...sorry if it sounded misleading in any way. For the record, there was no mention of the product being made by Rare Spares in my ebay ad. Dave simply sent me a message via the ebay ad and asked me to contact him about it. At that stage neither of us knew who had made the panel.
I didnt go directly to Rare Spares with a complaint because I honestly did'nt know who made it.
The sole purpose of the ad was to let prospective buyers know that if they bought one from that particular ebay seller that they weren't going to be happy with it.

Dave

I think the problem seems to be that the guys on the counters and the guys onselling through eBay are fobbing people off and sending them packing when they complain.

This clearly pisses people off and hence you get these kind of threads happening.

The directors of Rares need to get onto their distributers and then onto their front line employees and tell them that:-
a. Always take on board what complaint a customer has.
b. Always reimburse them if the product remains saleable (or even if it's not - your call)
c. Get the feedback straight back to you directors.

If Rares have decided the way that these issues get resolved is to speak to a director, then give the frontline guys your phone numbers and get them to pass them on to angry customers. Alternatively, give your frontline guys the same powers that you have to resolve issues.

It's your business, and you should run it the way you see fit.

But you need your front line sales guys to have the same customer focused attitude that the directors clearly do.

Basic sales - 1 happy customer will tell 5 of his mates of good service even if ultimately the item wasn't right. 1 pissed off customer will post on line and get to thousands.

Your call - you have had a monopoly for a long time. You still do for lots of the items.

It's a small community, and a $50 item not refunded could send lots of customers direct to the new suppliers that are coming on stream.

My 2 bobs anyway.

Cheers

Jeremy

....also....I did not place the ad with any intent to get action or a resolution from Rare Spares....it was simply intenede as a warning.
What has happened since is just a very unexpected bonus.

Point(s) taken.
Clearly we need to work on ensuring the feedback gets back to us which I can assure you we will do.

I took Dave up on his invitation to call him this week regarding a similar issue with a cowl panel. He was very approachable and invited me to bring the panel in and tell him what my concerns were. He was kind enough to show me around and listen to my opinion regarding the part. We even talked to the people in the pressing area and discussed various issues regarding quality and tooling.

We came to an amicable agreement so I suggest that anyone that has concerns with the quality of the parts to take it up with the manufacturer. In this case they were more than happy to help.

Regards, Alan.
