I'm going to assume you want the V8 & everything into the VK, so all of this is based on what you'll do to the VK to make it work.
Transfer ALL the driveline - nothing from the 6 will suit the V8.
The K-frame is the same - you can leave it in place, as too the front brakes.
You can also keep the current steering rack (if it's power) and use the lines & pump from the VH. If the VK is not power steer, you'll need to sap in the whole VH system.
You will need to fit the VH's master cylinder & booster, to suit the rear discs.
The drivetrain will all physically bolt in - both shells have the same mounting holes for the gearbox x-member.
The front springs on a V8 are harder than a 6, but 6 cylinder springs work well with a V8 over them if you wanted the car a bit lower.
If the VK is EFI, then swap over the VH fuel tank.
If the VK is already carby, don't worry about swapping.
You will need the following other bits from the VH to go into your VK:
- Radiator, shroud & fan
- Power steering bracket & lines
- Alternator & bracket.
If your VK has aircon, keep it's current compressor & hoses, and fit a compressor bracket from a VK or VL V8 (it all bolts up) - the compressor in a VK is in the same location on VK 6 & V8.
You will also need to swap over the pedal box - see hainzy's thread on his VH SL/E T30 EFI 5L conversion for that info:
http://www.fastlane.com....topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24306The VH & VK speedo cables are the same for trimatic & aussie 4 speed - just make sure you use the speedo gear from the VH.
You'll need to use the VH V8 exhaust - fit it up before putting the diff back in, so you don't have to undo any of the joints. If the VH has a dual system, you'll need to make brackets to hold the RH side pipes. Factory style dual systems run down each side & pair up at the fuel tank - 6 cyl cars don't have the RH exhaust hangers as they only have a pipe down the LH side.
The VK wiring is very different to a VH, so you'll need to adapt the engine harness, but that's not hard. If your VK has a tacho, it will need to be recalibrated for the V8.
You will need to get the engine number changed over, and depending on your state of residence, the rego authorities may need to inspect the car to make sure you put all the pollution gear back onto it. The black VK 308 is the same prefix as the blue VH 308 (both are VTxxxxxx numbers) and run the same pollution gear, so this is no problem.
I've done a similar swap over a 2-day weekend, but didn't need to do any wiring mods (would only take a couple of hours). If you have 2 weeks, you'll s*** it in.
Cheers,
Mick
