DA, MMP and We Wreck have all hit the nail on the proverbial.

People's Choice makes great sense, participants enjoying the fact its no pressure and enjoying and sharing their cars and their stories. Oh yes, and far less pressure on the organising committee too. Definitely worth marking in down in the diary.

Looks like most do not want judging, so best to call it a display day rather than a show and shine.

That makes it real easy, just find a park etc that can hold around 30 to 50 cars. Gold coin to park your HK to HG in the park on the day and free to public. (that way no poeple involved other than opening the park, lots of public parks that will hold that many)

For teh evening, try someothing like the meet and greet night at the RSL, I am sure plenty of clubs will supply a function room if you bring 60 - 150 peope to them.

Then organise a cruise in the area.

Loxton wanted the Monaros back so they might even help if you go back to that area.

Remeber the amount of people you need to help on the day. If you keep it real simple like above you need very few to help. Plus cost is almost nothing for the entrants. (most of the entry money goes to the public liability, judges etc.)

Most of the nationals that I have been to outside the Monaro nationals, are small event, few public but plenty of enthusiastic car owners.

If you need anything from me to help get it under way let me know.

Adopt the EJ/EH model of an All State Run - plenty to do, inc show n' shine (peer judged), driving events (not drags)

Thurs - casual BBQ for early arrivals

Fri - Scrutinize then car rally / observation run - casual meet and greet dinner/ cocktail party

Sat - Show and shine, then casual dinner

Sun - driving events - motorcana style

Mon - Cruise then goodbye BBQ lunch

If you want to see how it has been done successfully over the last 30 years, then hit Canberra next Easter

65ehpv...as a first event it needs to crawl before it can walk..summernats is not something that a car show of one model and few years should be compared to..
take a bit from some of the succesful shows around australia and blend it..have a look at how toranafest is put on by the hunter valley torana club to start with..just google toranafest.

Ahh, I wondered where he got the sumernats connection from.
Yeah the EJ/EH ASR is a casual event with a few guidelines. Probalbly not what pretentious Holden coupe owners want

Why even bother about judging at all if it is be a casual event. Peer judging has plenty of problems, especially when states are involved.

There have been nationals that relied on entrant peer judging and it has been noticed that the host state wins most trophies. ( I think full analysis would show that the re is little basis, but human nature is a wonderful thing). The first to introduce indpendant impartial proffessional judging, that I am aware of, at a nationals was not the pretentious coupe owners but the FE/FC nationals. This was the first Monaro nationals that used professin ASMF judges for modified and a Monaro experts group for non modified cars.

The FE/FC clubs made this part of their charter and was first introduced at the Gold Coast nationals in I think 2004. The rules dictate independant judges to ensure that some of the comments made about the judging at the Monaro nationals could not be made.

Might be best not to have any judging at the first event, then see what people want after that. You will need something for pople to travel interstate for a show and shine and a cruise.

If I think if anything, or anyone else for that mater, let Simon know. It would be great for the rest of the HK to HG range to have some event.

It's so easy to become pretentious though when you own a HKTG.
compare for instance the amount of changes to the options lists from the years prior. Even the Holden dealerships experienced massive changes to their marketing strategies. HKTG series of cars were a whole new world, women in catsuits, people from outer space etc.
Holden all of a sudden dared to think big, and I think a lot of this has been passed through time to the current custodians of these vehicles. I think in the future we might see more of the marketing surrounding a car at a show, than the car itself. Take Nick's HK for instance, full of marketing and excitement. Every where you looked was a celebration of this fantastic new car. Imagine if Paul Kelly had a woman dressed in a catsuit crawling all around his Warwick yellow HK GTS. I know none of this seems like it has anything to do with Simon trying to organise an event, but marketing,timing and thinking big can work. We all must realise though that one mans dream takes a team to fulfill. I think the timing is right, the rest comes down to getting the right people in the right areas, networking towards a common goal. Perhaps have a judged cars section? Have multiple categories so a broader section of owners are placed in a section/category they are most comfortable with.
Just don't fall into the trap of thinking small, as this is a category most pretentious HKTG owners probably would'nt feel a part of or identify with. If this is done right, the Monaro nationals could well become just a stepping stone toward something much larger and appeal to a much broader spectrum of the community. Which means more takings at the gate so better funded, put back into better family orientated entertainment. Speaking of men in space suits, has anyone asked the Wiggles if they would like to donate some time toward a community project? Hehe, they do have a big red car.

Firstly - Good for you mate ... give it a go .
Secondly - keep it simple for the first one.
Saturday - Show and Shine,
Sunday - Cruise to somewhere interesting so they can all experience a convoy of class vehicles stretching into the distance ... they'll love it.

This was how we started the HD HR Nats and it is very popular.

I see your biggest challenge being the lack of HKTG dedicated Clubs to take it on from year to year but hey, maybe it will inspire Clubs to be created !

You will be doing good either way because you will be doing SOMETHING rather than letting nothing happen.

keep it in 1 spot, all the same, every year, same bat time, same bat chanel, same EVERYTHING, no judging, just a peoples choice, easier, smarter, more fun and less e-aggro later from keyboard experts armed with a book and passwords from forums complaining about vinyl colors and shades and engine bay paint runs.

bright rod run is coming up in a few weeks, do yourself a favour simon and study how it was started, how its grown and how easy it runs, started by ray mcdonald and his club to ENJOY their cars.
not one bit of negativity there, just adoration of each others cars.

As I'm going to tell you and everyone here that this event should and must be run by a non-profit organisation that only have one goal and that's to take good care of its members/participants, the greater community, have a lot of fun and not be stuck wallowing in some pondage filled with character debates. This is about communicating to a broad and varied sector of the community in an easily approachable and diplomatic manner.
I strongly urge you therefore to change your stance, sit back and watch your idea grow WITH you included.

Sorry Erik, sounds like a bit of a hatchet job. I don't think it's fair to say to HKTG Recovery that their time is up and to get with the programme, these things take time.

I wouldn't be surprised if he finds it a bit galling to be told to "forward a letter of nomination" to someone else for his own idea/event. Also that stuff you posted on oldholden about public liability? How can you get PL insurance when a venue hasn't been fixed? Do you have it?

Also on the same theme where you have said on oldholden "you should contact Dave smith, President of the HK,HT,HG owners drivers club of Australia P/L" and here with "be a part of the best team assembled to tackle all the logistics" this all sounds like a really bad hatchet job, considering that this entity was registered with ASIC three days ago

Like I said, if I had an idea for an event and 3 weeks later somebody hijacked my idea and "invited" me to "submit my ideas" to a 3 day old newly formed "committee", I think I would rightfully feel a little pissed off.

I think in the interests of fairness you should allow the instigator to at least have a go to get the idea off the ground. I think it makes you look bad with the impression you create with your posts about the HKHTHG ODCA as if it is a well-established and experienced organization when in fact it was registered with ASIC on 7 October

Hi Erik, more questions for you.

You have only announced the existence of the HK HT HG Owners Drivers Club of Australia P/L (heretofore known as HKHTHG ODCA) here in passing, with no formal announcement, so I would like to ask some questions.

In light of your above statement that this event should be run by a NFP Organisation and then asking for nominations to HKHTHG ODCA, can you confirm that HKHTHG ODCA is a NFP, and if so, why is it registered with ASIC as a Company rather than an Incorporated Association?

and above, you do appear to suggest that HKHTHG ODCA is a NFP association, yet the company structure appears to conflict with this information.

Can you please confirm the company structure and if indeed NFP disclose any relevant information required by ASIC to be made publically available. If this is not a NFP organisation, can you please clarify, as (apparently) claiming to be NFP when trading as a company may see you in breach of various ASIC regulations and Commonwealth Law.
