Can someone please advise me what is the colour code for the steering boxes coverplate. I know its Red but what shade of red???

I believe they used the old EH-HR engine red. It is darker than the HK Rocket Red used on HK-HZ engines.
Power Plus used to make it as Holden 'Special Red' engine enamel in pressure packs, however I think they have discontinued to make it. Another company called Motospray makes a similar product, they may be worth a try.

Tranx, sorry for the aside on this.
Warren, was the colour of the steering box top used to distinguish between box ratios on really early HK? I thought this may explain why there were a couple of colours.

A friend of mine has an HK ute that is untouched and his has the black top. Cannot remmeber the build date of it to confirm this theory.
They are rare to see, so might be. Must be pr Monaro though as the early GTS cars that I have seen have 16.7 stamped on them.

I'm pretty sure pre Monaro/Brougham only the power steered cars had 16.7 standard or optional on others. I just thought the different colour top might have been the way to tell them apart in th earlier days.
