stolen. I.d tags off h.t bathurst monaro
By a Holden Fan o.O 07/10/10@20:20
hi i,m trying to recover my stolen i.d tags that have gone missing off my sebring orange sandlewood inteior brisbane built HT bathurst monaro. this car belonged to my dad before he passed away so it really means alot to me. Dad and me got it in 1998 from a bloke at knox in melbourne. We put in it for a respray in 2001 and only had it back a few weeks when dad passed on, i was too shattered to go near it and it stayed mostly covered in the garage for 9 years then acouple of months ago i poped the bonnet and my heart neary stopped when i saw that some lowie has ripped my tags. my old man would be rolling in his grave to know that someone has done this to his baby and i feel bad has i promised him i would always look after the ol girl and would never sell it. These tags have gone missing sometime in the last 9 years so they could be well and truly already on a fake and the poor bugger driving it probably wont even know, so i,m kindly asking all people who love monaros and know people that own monaros if the word can be put out on the street about my tags. I dont want them back to sell the car as i wont brake my promise to my dad, this car like all monaros is special and it deserves to have it,s i.d tags back. At the end of the day i know what it is and i,m not intending ti sell it so if i dont get the tags back it wont be the end of the world but of course i would love to have them retuned no questions asked. Surly not that many brisbane built sebring orange with sandlewood interior HT bathurst monaros were built and i,m wondering how they can use these tags when they are off such a rare car? If anyone knows of anyone building or driving a sebring orange HT monaro and they think the car is abit how ya going can they plesae get in touch with me. These i.d tags went missing from cranebourne/mornington area. reward no questionns asked. thanks everyone.

ht bathurst history and stolen i.d tags
By a Holden Fan o.O 17/10/10@23:13
hi to all holden fans, my name is Brian and i,m the guy chasing my stolen i.d tags for my Sebring Orange / Sandalwood interior HT Bathurst monaro. Hopefully some day not too far away someone will make that magic phone call saying they have my tags , that would be one of the best phone calls ever. Something else I,d really love to know is the cars history so I.m hoping someone in melbourne may remember the car? When i bought the HT in 1999 it had centerline type wheels and it had the wrong HG style thick black stripes running along the bottom of the sides, it was also painted black under the rear bumper bar and it did,nt have the HT rally stripes, but it had the HT hood stripes. The guy i bought it from was a good bloke and told me that the HT had been off the road for 6 or 7 years of the 9 years he had owned it and he said the gentleman that owned it before him use to use it mainly for towing his boats down Phillip Island way I think he said. The car has had a after market Hurst shifter fitted to it sometime during its life and instead of just cutting a hole in the floor it looks like they,ve welded in a new section and the welds are brass welds so maybe someone will remember doing this to the HT them selfs or they may know who did? Also the left hand side of the rear parcel shelf has been roughly repaired with what looks like a welded in sheet of galvanise iron. I,m hoping someone will remember these features and make contact regarding the history of my HT. Thanks Holden People

Do you have all the numbers off the tags??

It is just a little hard to keep an eye out for stolen tags when you do not know the numbers.

Brian.
You should not expect any type of quality info to come back to you unless you put the numbers up for all to see.

If you have any old documents/ rego papers/ receipts etc. you'll get some numbers.

Other than that get the body number from the firewall just behind the distributor and the engine number and PM them to me, Byron, James V.B. or Warren. Some of us can then run with those numbers and possibly come up with someth info for the tags. Your numbers will be safe.

Don't be worried by the " If I publish the numbers then something bad will happen" syndrome.

Some people are secretive and sensitive about the numbers on their cars and I do not understand why.

My Bathurst Monaro was on display at the Nationals and had the bonnet open for all to see. The moment you open the bonnet in a public place it can be photographed. Mine was many times on that day....What bad stuff will happen????.... I dunno.

If you publish the numbers, you are telling the truth and can back your claim with documentary evidence then you have just removed all, if any value in the tags. If they happen to be on someones car then they would need to be worried.

If you expect people to help you with your quest you have to give them something to run with. Right now what you are asking for is a bit of a tall order.

In saying all that. Sorry to read your story and good luck with it all. Happy to keep an eye out but need numbers.
Cheers
Nick

hi and thanks for replying and i understand what you mean. i should have took photos of those tags and i,m kicking my arse that i did,nt. I,ve got a good idear rouhgly what the number on the big tag was, I was just hoping that because it was a brisbane built car and only a few in that colour and interior combination were built might narrow down the sarch? No parts were taking and they did.nt try to take the car.

Hi nick thanks for getting back to me mate and i agree with you that i should throw the numbers up and i would if i could but i hav,nt got one bit of paper work showing 81837 and i know i put it on paperwork i gave the RTA but all they say they have is engine and chassie number. Nick when i bought the car in 1998 i didnt know much about monaros let alone Bathurst Monaros so i didnt have a clue about Numbers and other things GTS 350 Manual Monaros are supposed to have? The guy i bought it off seemed like he was only slightly more knowledgable than me and he said he thinks 81837 means Bathurst', Nick the car was made in Jan 1970 and i know that 100 per sent because i use to joke that the HT was 7 months older than my little sis as she was born in Aug 1970, I remember looking at the Tags and it read HT81837M and i didnt know if the M for melbourne? The body nunber I.m not tottally sure on but it was like 14450 or there abouts, i remember thinking could this be the 14th thosand and something 350 manual made? then i thought Naa they couldnt have made that many so maybe its the 14th thousand G.T.S made? it was only when i read the Monaro storey did i realise the Brisbane plants includes all their cars in that number. I be fighting a looseing battle trying to get my tags back Nich but i hope not mate as its just plain wrong.I was hoping because of the colour and interior combo it would make it to not come undone? I appreciate you keeping your eyes open Nick. Cheers Brian

hi Nick the only old rego papers i have are from 2001 and it only says chassis and engine number, when i got the HT it had two old victoian rego labels on the flipper window and silly me scrapped them off when i put the new one on the windscreen. It also has a HQ block so no HT engine number. Can the firewall number help? I have lots of pics of the car and the rough repairs , should i put these photos out so people may reconise them. thanks for your advice Nick

Hi to all,I,ve been getting some great replys from people and its really blown me away in a nice way to know that there are some fair dinkum good people out there willing to chip in and help another person that they dont even know, it feels abit like the Aussie of old when people would look out more for each other and a bloke would always get up to let a woman or older person sit down. Old School.. They were the days but it looks like these are the days too when there are people like The Silverfox ,Edelbrock 1 ,Hazzard County and others willing to have a go like they have and to give their time to help me is nothing short of showing top form so Thanks for that fella,s New School Day,s with Old School Way,s. I have to try and get my numbers, I remember when I first regoed the HT in 2000 I actually put the HT81837M on the rego form where it said Body number and the gentleman working the counter that day at Vic Roads rightly told me HT81837M is not the Chassie Number and put a line through the HT81837M with his pen and then wrote the chassis number where it said Body Number on the rego form. If only i could get that form. I heard the R.T.A, dont keep those forms we fill out? Does anyone know for sure? it,s doing my head in knowing my Tag,s are out there somewhere probably not too far away and I dont know where? I know the body number is somewhere around 14,450 because i remember thinking that Holden could,nt have made that many Manual G.T.S 350,s so I thought maybe it means the 14,450 th G.T.S made at Brisbane? It was only after I bought The Monaro Story did i learn that Brisbane included all their HT Models in that Number. I know bugger all really, only what I,ve read in the Monaro Story. Maybe one of my only hopes is for someone to reconise the car from photos? someone must have owned it and sprayed the HG stripes on it and put the Cheviot wheels and racing harness type seat belts in her along with the after market hurst shifter. Hopefully someone will remember these features and know some history on the car . Cheers everyone Brian

The number he would have put on the form is the chassis number which you have on the firewall. Ben Stewart is your best bet. He may have recorded the car's details many years ago, and if so he'll have the chassis number. Tell him what you have and you never know.

G'day Brian, you never know what info the rego people have, in my case I wanted to know the original Qld number plate for my HK. I emailed the Qld DOT and they referred me to their Privacy Dept, at the end of the day I got what I wanted and found them most helpful. Luckily for me the car had had a plate change in 1992 and someone recorded what the old plate was, so you never know.

The firewall stamp might be all you need to start with.

Hi to all car lovers. I hope everyone reading is having a top day, I have a good feeling that we are going to find out some info on our car, either maybe by kindly asking Ben to have a look at the firewall number and The Grafton Speedway Rookie of 2006 is trying to help me in that department too so with that help and other iron,s in the fire like R.T.A and people perhaps remembering the car (no one ever forgets owning a Monaro or any other nice car)we might get lucky? It would be good to put some photo,s of the HT up that were taken not long after i first got her I,ll have to ask my lovly wife Wendy if it can be done as she,s the pro with this computor, I,m flat out just using the thing, but youse probably already worked that out , Wendy and the kids love the car too so we,re all having a go, If the kids come home and say they saw a Orange Monaro today,, my ear,s prick straight away and I ask if it had a white interior? it,s bloody cruel. I dont know how many owners our HT has had? only that we ( Dad and me) bought her in 1999, the guy i got it off had it for arond 8 or 9 years i think he said which would bring it back to arond 1990 when he bought it, i think he said the bloke he bought it off had it for around 7 years so that would take it back to 1983? . I hav,nt seen too many HT Monaros with the wrong thick black HG stripes along the sides, Here are some other features it had. It had a bodgy looking BLACK PLASTIC FUEL CAP, it really stood out against the orange, also one of the front seats was not original sandlewood and had been sprayed white with that vinyl colour spray and the old colour was showing through, it had those racing harness seatbeats that straight away tells you the things been well and truely thrashed, thats probably half the reason why the donk was missing and a HQ block was in its place but with the HT big heads, manifold and carby, the sump has had a extra section welded into it to help it hold more oil. looks back yard but effective. the original exhaust was long gone,as was the shifter and console. I remember thinking back then when we brang it home from our friends panel shop, should i take the i.d tags off for safe keeping like some people do with Falcon GT,s? then i thought Naa no need as no one would be able to use them anyway. How wrong was i to think that and another reason i did,nt want to take them off is because they looked like they had never been off the car. I loved those Tags so much when we got the car back from the crash shop i ripper striped the black paint off the tags and shined them up with Autosoul. I have a photo of the HT with the hood up at the panel shop and you can see the Tags sitting there painted black... yep its bloody cruel.......... cheers Brian and Wendy
