I have a HJ coupe with a mild 308, 3000 stall and 3.55 diff gears.
At the moment it has an old style twin point dissy. I am looking at going to an electronic dissy. ICE , by all reports make a good product. Is it worth spending $1375 on an ICE system or looking at a WB style? Any thoughts appreciated.

The Holden HEI system is very good, and more than capable of handling your engine.
Save your $$ and put them into other go-fast mods.

To give you an idea of how well the HEI system works, I'm running the standard HEI dizzy with the replacement aftermarket Bosch transformer coil, on a stroked 304, running 11.5:1 comp, on straight LPG, and it has no problems at all cracking good spark at 6000 RPM across a 1.2mm plug gap (factory standard is 1.5mm).

From what I gather the ICE ignition systems are really for people who want to have specific timing curves, or change their timing curves depending on engine setup, for racing / drag racing etc... if you're only going to be running on one kind of fuel then as commodorenut said the Holden HEI system will provide more than enough spark. Having said that the ICE system is pretty cool, as it allows you to change the timing if you're running dual fuel.

i have a standard bosch HEI out of a WB in my HQ (V8) it fires brisk plugs that have a 3mm gap!!

i've never had a misfire, there great dizzys

Thanks for your comments. I felt the ICE was overkill for my application. Commodorenut, sounds like you have your set up doing the trick, I think I will look into the Holden HEI as you suggested.

old(ish) thread, i know, but standard HEI ignition has been on engines running 9's down the quarter.

my POS with a touch under 11:1, reasonable cam still has one although once you need more than about 16 degrees of initial timing on a half decent engine its worth looking for something that will let you (or your tuner) build a nicer curve.

Ive had to compromise initial timing to get the total where it needs to be, and it made tuning the carb at idle and low throttle a bitch.

Most people dont care enough to bother, but i reckon there was power in building a proper curve for mine, sadly i never got the chance due to a forced freshen.

I did of course, ditch the vac advance.

save your money dude, even Michael at ICE told me i could spend the money elsewhere to go faster/run better (i just wanted to go quicker than the next guy with allegedly more power lol)

went quicker and faster, just not quick enough.

now being rebuilt with less cam, much less comp, and a turbo.

after needing a dizzy, i bought a cheap procomp dizzy off evilbay for about $80. the vacuum weights were wrong. too heavy. with that fixed,it ended up giving me 50,000ks trouble free driving. then i sold the car. for a family car.
