Anyone know the difference between the HK and HT HG wheel nuts? do the HK rims take the deeper countersunk nuts to the T G's or is it the shallower nut?
thanks
Paul

Hi Bluez.

Yes, the HK wheel nut has the shallower taper, this nut had been used since the FJ.

HT to WB & Toranas use the longer nut with the 'sharper' taper. The thread is still 7/16" UNF so the nut will still fit, but it can damage the wheel centre if you have the wrong nut & wheel combination.

A mate of mine only recently showed me his caravan wheels where the studs holes were badly worn. The van was built in the early 70s & was originally fitted with LC/LJ rims & the later style nuts. Sometime in the past someone has fitted FE/EH wheels (same stud pattern). Now the wheels are chopped out so badly around the stud holes, that even with the nuts tightened, the wheels are still slightly loose.

Dr Terry.

Exactly as Dr terry just wrote. They are very different. Hk and earlier nuts on late wheels, not ideal but will just do, but the other way around you will for sure bugger the wheels, nuts and studs. Hold 2 together you will see the difference quite clearly. Some will say oh they are all the same stud pattern, same thread not a problem, but if you want to tempt fate with your $100 getting rarer early wheels well you have'nt seen what damage can be done. The late nuts bottem out before they can pull up tight on to the wheel..just like Dr terry said, a slightly worn nut a slightly worn wheel a recipe for drama....all the best regards....Jack
