G,day everyone just wondering if anyone knows if all HT G.T.S Monaros had the black painted in the headlight surrounds? Did some plants just leave them chrome? I have noticed some are chrome. Also did Brisbane HT GTS 350 have the hood cut for carby reasons?

Not black examples would be Monaro, Kingswood or Belmont. What do you mean by hood cut?

Thanks Jim and Pete i did,nt think they came out chrome, the only reason i asked is because i noticed a very original Sebring Orange HT GTS 350 for sale in Q.L.D and it was chrome around the headlights, also i saw a one owner HT GTS in Brisbane that also had chrome surrounds but I,m taking on board what you guys are saying and going back to black.

Cheers Brian

Hi everyone

I,ve changed this abit so i could explain abit a better.

The hood on the HT look,s like it,s maybe been cut for extra carby space? or maybe for better breathing?

I,m just wondering if Holden did it? , or if i,ll need a new hood one day?

I,ve only seen a similar cut on one other Monaro GTS 350 and that is a one owner Brisbane car i have in one of my Australian Muscle Car mag,s

The job on my HT look,s rough and not factory but then i think about what Holden did to the rear inner qauter,s of the A9X,s with sledge hammer,s? so i was thinking maybe Acacia Ridge did that to the hood?

There,s no hole in the hood like it,s had a scoop or anything, it,s just been cut through what look,s like the rear surport? that brace,s
underneath the hood

I might not be explaining it right but if you clink on to

www.monaroskeepgoing.com.au and get my photo,s up, you will see what i mean

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheer,s Everyone

Brian

sounds like what a mate has done to his monaro . he done it for the big block to fit so carby clears the bonnet without cutting holes through the skin
why drink & drive when you can drift & slide

Yeah i was thinking something along those line,s.
No one in the know with Monaro,s has told me it could have been done at the factory so i think i,ll take that as meaning that it was,nt...

BW I have a HT likewise and there are witness marks in the layers of duco from each of its previous nine lives were an air filter has been seriously rubbing on the bonnet frame. I remember serious clearance issues when using adaptor plates under square bore carbs on the spreadbore manifolds. Also back in the early chrome air cleaner days most of the bases were flat so the air filtes sat fairly high. cutting the frame out was a bandaid fix. oily

BW It is probably just as well that they were not that easy to cut neatly otherwise a lot more may have been. I have looked at plenty of GTS bonnets on ebay and dont remember seeing any cut so it must have been limited to the bogan end of the model range "mee en ma maatez". (lucky 4" grinders and thin cutting discs were still a thing of the future).
Another less dramatic fix was a handfull of wheel alignment shims under the bonnet hinges, lifting the rear of the bonnet ensuring you always had bogan credability and a dirty windscreen. oily
