looking at the firewall with the heater box it looks like its in a chev impala/belair /pontiac with HQ brake booster. Its only stroked to a 327 the block is 307. Maybe he has restamped the block or the engine # should have started with 307 questions need to be asked to this seller. Edited by user Sunday, 5 December 2010 6:14:21 PM(UTC)

307 & 327 share the same 3.25-inch stroke, only the bore changes. The 307 has a 3.875-inch bore while the 327 is 4-inch.

Hi all Yes you can bore a 307 to 4.00 in not good. I would say someone damaged a 327 motor . just restamped the 307. PS got 307 out to 4.020 can be done. but how hot will it get. Tony

I've had 307's running fine at 4" and 4.030". I wouldn't exactly advise it though.
That is a resonably early Melbourne engine number, and cannot be original on that block unless it is a mistake. A photo of the engine number will tell all. Also a comparison between the cast date, McKinnon engine number and the GMH part of the engine number will also see what has happened.

Should be K1017 or something like that. If all the stamping looks OK it is most likely a mistake, and the engine is probably from an early Melbourne built HK 737 GTS. I have seen an original HT GTS350 with a 308M engine number, number was on the log books and the block.

how were these engine identified at the factory as they arrived, some sort of shipping tag showing engine size or of the casting numbers?

casting numbers are generally not changeable, this engine is a 307. bores are only 20th out. must just be a 350 crank,307 casting,327 engine number.

No, not unless it is a +0.125" bore (ie 4"), then they are standard 350 pistons.

Not sure, but they would have been easy to tell apart by the intake manifold and carby (307 was 2BBL, 327 was 4BBL). The 1969 327 and those for the Chevs and Pontiacs were also a US made engine, 307's were Canadian so easy to pick part that way too. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

it says only 20th out,it has to be crank and rods unless there is another way I havent heard of?.also the add says"original steel crank" doubt it.I dont think the "327" equation is correct. "CAST NUMBER IS 307" Here's the question then...only 20th out original steel crank(so has original stroke) 327....dont think so.
