G,day Everyone
I,v got acouple of 350,s sitting in the shed that i,m hoping someone can help me with
The first one has a casting number of 3970010 and beside that is a big 17 and the letters GM There,s also a big 22 casting under the petrol pump
The first letter of the engine number is hard to make out but it,s either a O or a C?
Either 0E5N20 or CE5N20
The other one also has the same casting number of 3970010 but has a big 31 beside the casting number.
The engine number is R30V10 This motor came out of my Monaro but i know it,s not the original motor, someone said it could be HQ?

Those numbers are not right...one looks like a CE(Chevrolet exchange)engine but the other I havent seen anything like that. They are definitely re-stamped

No matter, they would need rebuilt anyway, which usually requires "decking"not too much of a "sale able" problem.

Casting number is a high nickel content block, also could be 2 or 4 bolt mains alot of people like the 4 bolt mains but I think they are the same for street use as you are more likely to drop a rod or something else before a main cap lets go.....just my opinion.pretty sure they were used in HQ also 3970014's aswell were used but were used in lots of other cars. (68-80 I think)
oops!!sorry!!"high nickel"content blocks are rumored to be stronger ,so more sought after by some...jim

Mmmm interesting, the one out of the Monaro, engine number RV3OV10001/0 I have the sump off and is 2 bolt mains.
The other one still has the sump on so not sure if that one is 2 or 4 bolt main,s.? what you said about 2 bolt mains for the street makes sense. I,ll probably flog them off as they are just sitting there doing nothing

Take a close picture of the numbers and email them to me, I should be able to tell you if they are obviously restamped from photos.

Had a look at the "010" block on ebay Jim, is there meant to be a "010" casting some where on the block? I did,nt see one anywhere but i was,nt looking for one either. The R30V1OOO/0 engine has heads with 3927186 on them, manifold with 3927184, the harmonic balencer on this motor look,s huge compared to the 350 sitting beside it. I,ll go up to Mum,s shed on the weekend Byron and take a couple of close up photo,s of the engine number,s and send them off to you. The engine out of the Monaro, engine number R30V1OOO1/1 was in the Monaro when i got her and i got her regoed with that engine number in 2000. I,ll be going into the same Vicroads to try and dig something up on my Monaro, you know the story of the HT. B&W Edited by user Tuesday, 14 December 2010 8:01:19 AM(UTC)

BW Hi Research these engines properly before cashing them in. Particularly the engine out of your monaro as going by the beginning of your post it has the correct (late HK327,HT350 & early HG350)3927184 inlet manifold. The heads 3927186 are the fuellie heads that they put on some (NOT MANY)GTS350's to legitimize use of the same heads on the race cars for Bathurst 69, The balancer/timing cover will most likely be the 8" version which I think will be for the HT350 manual cars (4bolt 3932388 block). Which alloy rocker covers do you have (HT will be plain inside later eg HQ will have cast tags inside to help oiling. Some of these bits may give your car more Providence if you want originality The bit can be found on other imported chevy motors brought in years ago but there is a good chance they are original. OIly

Back again, Forgot to mention. Starter,Wiring clips, manifolds , heat shields and the rare ID carby. are all things that are specific to this model. Oily.

Thats heads and manifolds,I am answering the block numbers(which are a re-stamp),oily,also the above links show that they are what you say,p.s.your right about researching, thats what we're doing and no I am not interested in buying them!!!....lol
I have a 327 with "327"prefix engine number only 20th out and crank is all standard and correct numbers it suits any hk gts and it would make it a match numbers as its a "CE" engine(warranty replacement engine)and its cleared for use through the rego office,so as oily says research can pay off..things are only worth the buyer at the time.jim

While you're at it, get the numbers off the crankshaft, that will give us a few more clues to what motor it is.....Jack
