Oily

i see what you mean about the heads, manifold and other stuff but i dont think the block is anything special,

The guy i bought it off said the block is HQ but everything else was HT, the finned rocker cover,s were gone
i got on to some but they have the tags inside so they are HQ are they, oh well nevermind.

When i was at mums last week i looked at the mains and they were definitively 2 bolt mains, my brother even made a comment about the Monaro engine only having 2 bolt mains.

They must have blew the HT block up or something and just grabbed a HQ bottom motor, and wacked all the HT stuff on it

It may have the HT crank? when i,m at mums next i,ll look for some numbers, where on the crank will they be Jack?

I,ll fill you all in on the story with the other 350. About 8 months after me and Dad got the HT,(2001) there was a
Blue HK 327 for sale in the Melbourne Trading Post for $10,000 so i drove out to have a look.
The HK was on a rotisserie, had rust cut out but was all in bit,s.
Parked in the drive way was another Warwick Yellow HK 327 with a little dent in it and looked unrestored.

I bought the HK 327 and that 350 at mums came with it along with the original 327 block. The 327 block had no piston,s in it,
no nothing, it was just a bare block but the guy said i would need it as it had the original numbers on it.
there was no crank for the 327, just block, heads and sump
The 350 that came with it is a short motor, the sump is still on it so i dont know if this one is 2 or 4 bolt

I dont know about these funny looking engine numbers but i,ve had the Monaro regoed in Victoria with that engine so i know that motor is 100 per cent hunky dorey and there was nothing shifty looking about the bloke and his home who i bought the HK from.

The Victorian number plate BHURST also came with the Blue HK and i kept the plate when i sold it

Wish i would have kept the bloody car too...

Interesting trying to sus out history isn't it (automotive archeology)
I think most engines from american delivered cars will have a partial vin of the car so some origin can be guessed.
I had a bit of a scrounge maybe the R suffix is early 327
http://www.chevy-camaro....ffix-codes.asp?group=11
Then same site but the codes for some 350's
http://www.chevy-camaro....ffix-codes.asp?group=12
I also like the camaro sites for info some of you will be familiar with these.
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml
http://www.camaros.org/e...html#ReplacementEngines
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PadStamps
The rest of that site Jim referred to is good also.

Hi All
Happy New Year... hope its a good one for everyone!!!

I ended up getting some photos of these two 350,s sitting over at mum,s
if anyone can find the time to have a quick look that would be grouse

If you clink on to www.monaroskeepgoing.com.au and clink onto my photos you will see the two 350,s
the first one with the chrome timing cover and big harmonica balencer is out of my Monaro
The engine number on this block looks abit funny but i have had the Monaro rego here in Victoria.

The next 350 came with a HK 327 i bought years ago

Thanks in advance guys

Brian

The first number is not a GM stamped number, done afterwards. The CE number is a GM stamping, so it'll be a proper replacement engine. Chev Offroad And Marine worked on one of the engines by the photos.
