Hear i have just been reading aussie muscle car the one with a gold HG GTS 350 on it.
Now he recons from november 1970 the 350 motors come from canada and are more powerful than the NY built 350 before it.
Whats he on about is it just nonsense.

Mopar 318's are prefered from Canada amongst my associates (dont know for what reason) but havent heard this about chevs

"He" you are referring to is Ben Stewart. It won't be in print unless it is correct. I have a late HG GTS350M engine and it is indeed a McKinnon block. Ask anyone that owned one and see what they say they were like. Also ask any HO owner of the day that had a run against one and ask them.

Do you know what the technical reasons are for them being superior? I would assume that they would use the same components in assembly? Is this correct?
Is it just that the folks in the north take more care in assembly?

Different cam and heads Bruvpig

I thought the only difference was the so called bathurst HT GTS 350 that got the option of different heads put on only after you bought it.

A neighbour had a HG GTS 350 manual and it did not have a lumpy cam like a GTHO PH 2 or 3.

3973370 double hump fuellie heads is probably the big difference, HT only got 186 fuellies as an upgrade if you paid for them. Also got 010 block and different intake.

Greetings, That was an excellent issue of that mag. That car is Indy Orange by the way. The story was ground breaking in many areas and would have had the Ford guys crying in their beers. At last the truth is coming out on some of these hidden issues.

But it mentioned that from September 1970 the cars had the new 350 engine and not November as you say. Also read the article again as the original 350 engines were de-tuned as it were to hide the true performane potential of the cars. The Canadian engines were marginally more powerful than the NY engines due to the differences explained in the chart.

Anything but nonsense you might say.

When you read what the HG was supposed to get ie the LT1 360hp 350ci engine from the 1970 Z28 and Muncie 4spd (with probably a 12 bolt) you can imagine what those things would be worth today.
