Jeremy, the ones pictured are to suit an LC- LJ GTR. They are separate from the wheel and are held on by the five purpose made nuts. They are very close to the HK-T-G sports disc centre which is spot welded to the rest of the disc.....Jack

The monaro hubcap I have in my hands has the cetre bit held in with 5 philips head screws. Has it been modified? I want to sell it so if it has been stuffed about with it would be handy to know.

LJ GTR / XU-1 are different, they are painted black in the middle, not red like LC. |

The LJ was officially released in early Feb 1972. As the factory shuts down for a short period over Christmas & they would need a few weeks to stockpile cars for release, the last LC was most likely built Dec 1971. Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Not necessarily - some are fixed with phillips head screws and washer while others are rivetted. Can't tell you whether this was a specific factory thing or whatever but it is a bit like the different lion emblems in the centre cap - look around and you will see a number of slight variations in the Lion itself.

The centre cap is spot wleded to the outer on Monaro hub caps.
The fake nuts are held on by philip's heads crews on HK and rivet on HT/G.
The different lion emblem is ue to damage to the die, there are about 6 different ones and all are avaialable on Hk to HG.

Thanks Warren, thats what I was trying to say above re Monaro sports discs and Torana centre caps. As you've said they are definitely spot welded on despite what appears to be a simple matter of unscrewing some philips head screws or drilling out some pop rivets. AND separating the centre cap from the outer is not an easy matter as the material is very thin . The torana centre caps are a separate item altogether and not fixed and are held in place only by the wheel nuts each time you fit the wheel. You may find the torana centre cap is a heavier material made of stainless steel. The monaro sports discs are also made of stainless although the centre cap is much more susceptible to rusting, maybe a lesser quality of steel. A side by side comparison of the two centre caps they look very much the same other than the very obvious cut out for the nuts on the Torana ones. If you're keen with a bit of work the Torana ones could be used on the monaro sports disc. The false nuts may just cover the cut out for the nuts.....Jack

those look quite good on the chev rally rims pictured here!! (almost like they shoulda been there from factory) all GTS sports wheel disc centre caps, & also GTR centrecaps, were made from th same guage mild steel version & chrome plated) then for torana they cut the ear off & u shaped it for wheel nut to retain it in place mite even dig out a set & put on my crusty pightute rims, then sell th original chev centre caps to someone needing th propper chev centrecaps!! regards DD www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au

Yes that is correct. Please read carefully. THE nuts( they are false nuts, imitation nuts, just pretend nuts) on HK-T-G Sports discs are held on by either phillips head screws or pop rivets. The pop rivets or phillips head screws do NOTHING to hold the centre cap to the main outer disc. To separate the centre cap from the main outer disc you will need to use a spot weld drill or similiar device....Jack
