Hi All,what is error 41 and/or 42 on a VQ Statesman ,my mates car just keeps cutting out ..he's replace ..plugs ,leads,dissy cap, rotor ignition module...I think its a sensor of some sort,but any ideas I will pass on...thanxz.

The most likely cause is the crank sensor inside the dissy. The only other regular faults on V8s of that era are the ignition module & the coil itself. I think you said he's replaced the module already though. Plugs, leads, cap & rotor will generally cause a misfire of some type, but won't throw those codes.

The ECUs on those models is not very reliable but it normally wouldn't cause that type of fault.

Dr Terry,thank you,I did think "most" of that and said to him that nearly all the things he replaced would give"erratic performance" but not generally stop the car dead like that.Being only into old cars I thought I would post it up for you dudes!! ..thanxz heaps.

From the list that i have,

41 Crank Angle Sensor
42 EST (Electronic Start Timing) Circuit

My parents also had erratic running and stalling caused by the crank angle sensor

I don't think it was very expensive to fix from memory
