So how many broughams were made over the 3 models?
Cant find it anywhere. I was under the impression that it may have been as low as 2000 for the HG (don't know where this came from, but it rings a bell from way back in my youth)

Next question,,, who has one out there?(or two.. or three..)
I have a soft spot for the citrus ugly duckling

I've got two wrecks. An HK which is just a stripped rolling shell with hanging panels, too good to cut up and an HT in Phoenecian Turqoise over Sandalwood. The HT is very rough, no running gear, semi complete roller. I've just put a deposit on an HT white over black complete with running gear and power steering and seats. Only partially stripped.

I've never seen production figures for Broughams but I always reckon there were more HK's, then the numbers declined from there. The Fairlane I believe well outsold the Brougham and by the time the HG came out, well, everyone was probably holding off for the new long wheelbase Statesman. I reckon HG Brougham numbers would be very low.

I seem to see a lot of them coming on to the market in this kind of condition.
I would love to get some kind of a register going to see how many are left, and in what condition. I see the ebay and similar adds, and wonder where they go.
I have 3 myself, two in rough condition, one nearly ready to register (wiring to do) and have unfortunately had to wreck another ( rear panels ripped from the car and submerged )

Maybe I could start a Brougham nationals and get all snooty and the like... excluding others
That might be fun

NOPE..

The best way to estimate how many would be find Sydney and Adelaide cars that actually nubered them. Once you have that info it would be quite easy to estimate the actual numbers.

Yes the Fairlane outsold the Brougham, but the Fairlane customcame with 200 six, 3 speed manual with drum brakes. The Brougham was up against the Fairlane 500, the Premier was against the Fairlane custom.

The HR Premier was more luxurious than an ZA Fairlane custom, as the Premier had auto and bucket seats. So using Fairlane figures to compare with Brougham would be unrealistic, you need Fairlane 500 figures.

The HK Premier had to be down graded to compete with the Fairlane.

When the Statesman arrived, it idid not take Holden long to realise thatthe Statesman should be a luxury car and not an entry lvel car.

So how do you find the sydney and adelaide cars Warren?
is it a matter of just looking at the plant codes of ones you come across, or is there a record somewhere?

What about monaros? What are the numbers for these?
Surely there would be some company figures on production runs.

Never mind what model it was up against..... with a short wheel base, it was always going to be a Washington Cardinals player

You just have to look at cars that still exist and record the numbers. Maybe write to all the appropriate clubs and ask them for the VIN and body ID plate details of all Broughams from Sydney and Adelaide.

That is one of the things that the Monaro registered did during its infancy. From there cars were "taged" at every possible show, wreckers cars for sale etc.

It was from this these figures we proved the Holden figure of around 9000 HK Monaros was wrong because Adelade and Sydney made that many, so Norm Darwin's 15000 was right.

No there are no accessable Holden production figures for Broughams.

I have an old wheels or motor manual with some of the production data comparing Fairlane to Brougham it goes on YTD sales and is for HK and HT but isn't full model data, I'll see if I can dig it out tonight.

That would be excellent... it is the best lead yet.
How would people feel about a Brougham register?
No details, but a list of build numbers still in existance.
GJ2 38540, TH6 31259, and one other (out in a shed 1/2 hour away) are still on the planet.

let me know what you think

ZC Fairlane (69-7/70)was around 21,500 units, ZD(70-12/71)was just over 22,000 cars, so if the fairlanes outsold the brougham's thats the sort offigures that were made

So we are well under 20k for the three models then.
One of the reasons it rates in the book of lemons was for the dismal head to head record with Ford in it's target market.

Found the mag Motor Manual June 72
1967 Fairlane 6972
of which 10% are base model
1968
Fairlane 8002
Brougham NR
1969
Fairlane 8622
Brougham 3104
VIP 3192
1970
Fairlane 9130
Brougham 1788
VIP 2174
1971
Fairlane 8492
Bro/Stato 3580
VIP 996
1971 includes HQ release when Statesman outsold Fairlane for Sept/Oct

Looks like the Brougham struggled to garner 7000 sales.

Very interesting figures. Well done!

Yep, they'll be a rare bird. Think of how many were molested for V8 drivelines!Still reckon the HG version would be very rare. You hardly ever see a tidy original one, here in Adelaide anyway.

oops, i have made an unusual error in my previous earlier posting, the ZC was around 12, 750 cars, and the ZD was arounf 12,500 units, i was thinking wishfully by adding 10,000 to each build number.

leroy, i think modern motor went on slaes figures, not actual build numbers.
