It's a WB ,Chevs alien to that!and my toploader was standard, not the toughest box, granted but good enough for 440 HP,Cost of the peripherals is the problem, tailshaft bellhousing, speedo etc,but with that in mind you only get what you pay for and all this would have to be purchased anyway, not cheap either way....TURBO 400 I did. ..lol |

Well the beastie already runs a turbo 350 so if i was to stay auto i'd jut use that, they're plenty tough enough with some minor mods. What i miss is that direct link feel that a good manual provides. It means that i'll have o slow the project down and save up the money for the manual which is a shame, but there you go!
I reckon a Muncie will do, after all i'm punting a chev v8, and it will be cheaper in the end as, like has been said, i have some of the peripherals already
Cheers Bill

Yes, but not alien to a W sized car. They were both standard in HQ, hence standard parts can be used eg tailshaft, speedo cable, crossmember. And floor modifications can be copied of stock HQ's so no non-factory designed mods are required. The only non factory bits needed in a WB is the cable bellhousing which would be a Dellow or CRS part. |

I'll throw a spanner into this discussion, that no one else has mentioned.
Doug Nash 5 speed, will blitz anything in terms of toughness and ratios, bell housings available for any American V8, and many shifter combinations are also available.

Hi All and Greg,The original question was "what manual box would you put behind a chev in a WB?"What gets me thinking is that some people will spend mega bucks on engines and an soon as it comes to the gearbox all of a sudden "cost" comes into it.A Doug Nash 5 speed would be "awesome" but expensive. Even though ten grand has been spent on an engine,Thats why I said a Toploader, they aren,t that dear to do and are small enough to fit in the tunnel easy!,Muncie's are great too,but D.Nash would be the "ducks guts" as they say,,good call...lol |

Doug nash eh? Well that would be the expensive option and possibly just a bit too much for a WB ute :) And while researching the DN option i also found the Tremec which seems to be more popular. HK what are the mods needed for the trans tunnel to suit the Muncie? I suppose i shouldn't be too racist about the toplaider otion as i'll be squeezing a 9 inch diff under it as well at some stage.

Just a small hump next to the shifter hole. Someone here might post you a link to a picture. Very similar to A9X with Super T10. |
