Ive heard conflicting comments on the correct way to fit the rear wheel bearings & locking rings to the axles on my banjo diff. As I use the car as a Variety Bash car, I have the wheel bearing change each year. The last place was a diff specialist who pushed the bearing on & heated the ring with an oxy, lightly pushed it on & allowed it to cool & contract. Others say you shouldnt apply heat but press the locking ring on.
Ive always got good advice from this forum.
Any help appreciated. Anthony

Most retaining rings come with a little note, saying "DO NOT USE HEAT WHEN FITTING' or words to that effect.
I've fitted hundreds of axle bearings & have never used heat on the retaining ring.

Not a good idea davo. Those little tack welds create a weak spot & I've plenty of axles snap off at that point in high HP applications.
