thanks warren, my cab was built in Adelaide, prob a dumb question but here goes, should thes numbers match an id tag, body number originally?

the chassis no should be on the ADR plate, but not uncommon for them to be different as alot were changed over the years.

Hi there,
I have been reading all the posts re HQ ID tags & chassis numbers & I am surprised with the amount of vehicles that these numbers do not match. Is it possible that some early HQ's left the factory with non matching numbers because there seems many that don't.

trevhq, It may not have been "swapped over" as you put it for the following reason. HQ vehicles were built in all states but not all of the vehicle was built in the one place on selected models. A tough concept to grab hold of but here me out.

Your 1 tonner was a Sydney assembled vehicle going by what you have posted. All 1 tonner cabs were only built in Adelaide and then sent to other plants for assembly into a cab/chassis vehicle. You can have a 1 tonner that is all Adelaide build or it could be an Adelaide/Sydney mix such as you indicate with your chassis number. There are also Adelaide/Brisbane and Adelaide/Melbourne mixes out there.

The clue to your 1 tonner identity will be the VIN plate. It will match the ADR plate for plant ID if the car hasn't been swapped over in terms of the chassis. Remember that the 1 tonner chassis is the biggest chassis on any HQ - 120" wheelbase.

The body plate will be Adelaide but the other two will be Sydney. This is a normal example of a 1 tonner from my experience. Trust me, Monaros are way easier to ID as they were only built in 2 places in HQ.

As above, HQs can be a minefield if you don't know what you are looking at. Even the experts get ID wrong on this model from time to time which is no surprise when you start looking into HQ cars and have to restore one to original condition. All good fun though.

Being a Panel Beater back in the early 70's, we did heaps of HQ front ends, nearly all rails were done on a change over basis with no thought given to chassis numbers.
