Gday all,
Probably an age old question but i need to know what would be a better diff for my hk prem 307. i already have mocked up a vh v8 com diff 2.78 disc brake but now have the opportunity to purchase a camaro lsd diff with saddles and bump stops ( may even be a hk v8 diff not to sure but it has a big v shape curve on bak and 10 bolt without brakes can someone shed some light.
Cheers

if ya want it to be original, youd need a banjo LSD 2.78 or optional 3.08 LSD. special order may have been optioned with 10 bolt, but not likely with p/glide. (would have had the hump at back of boot floor & hump at back of tank, ie would indicate original!)
th american 10bolts had different axles with chev/HQ stud pattern (groove on end of axle retained by circlip inside backing plate)
monaro used holden axle tubes & toothpick banjo axles with 28 fine spline on ends which were prone to breaking

cheers dave,
these axles are thick as, not worried about originality with drive train as it was originally a six but have a tuff little 307 to go in instead should i go with this diff as it seems stronger than the comm, also what disc brakes should i put on the camaro diff.
Cheers

i put vb - vk com 10 bolts in hktg all th time. always just put hq rear backing plates, drums & shoes.
they dont need discs on rear. (discs drag, drums dont)

Hi Dave,
Does anyone do axles etc to make the banjo's stronger?
I heard the BW diffs from the VL's are pretty strong and a little shorter so you can put a wider rim / tyre also.
What mods to the diff are required to do this?

to make a little stronger (& only a little)youd need fine spline axle spider gears outa hx or hz. or lx torrie . but th axles gun be too long, an need shortening (too expensve)

best to just scrap th banjo diff assy completely & source a borg warner or preferably a 10 bolt from vb to vk 5lit (big 10 bolt same as hq - z an as they are 25mm shorter & allows you to fit wider wheels) (hq - wb or chev stud pattern) otherwise hq to hz 10bolt is 26mm wider track & still good for 5 or 6"rims if not too low.(at least they tapered bearings an ya wont lose axles)
or juss pay heaps for 9" ford diff that ull drain 10 - 15% horsepower from ya motor but be bulletproof
