Hello, just wondering if anyone can tell me what colour wires are for what when it comes to the tail lights on a HQ tonner (there probably the same on all models)

i'm redoing the wires in the back of my tonner and putting new tail lights in (all currant wires and lights are hacked and incomplete), and there's no front wiring loom so can't use a test light to find where the wires go, so i was just wondering if it was as easy as holden used green for left blinker, brown for brake ect?

"dark brown=tail and stops
red= tail and stops" ????
You can't have 2 wires carrying out 2 functions each.

Here's how I read the circuit.

Green = Right-hand blinker
Yellow = Left=Hand blinker
Red = Brake lights
Brown = Tail & number plate
Tan = Fuel tank gauge

Go here & print out what you need, I laminate mine as this allows you to have them at hand while doing the job & keeps them clean...

don't forget that on the tonner the indicator lights double as reversing lights so the wiring can get a bit tricky. I rewired mine to have separate reverse ligths by fitting light units that had a reverse light (clear lense)if its an auto you can pick the rev light up from the connector at the bottom of the steering column, not sure where you get it on manuals.
also fyi the wiring harness has a connector just behind the drivers seat where you can get to all the rear wiring without having to chop into the harness. I think you have to lift the metal sill trim to get at it.

Thanks Terry, that's alot clearer, makes perfect sense

Jim, the wires are all black, someone has re-wired the back end at some stage, possibly when the trailer plug was added, the lights had been disconnected as well by the previous owner and the wiring looks like it was done by a 2 yr old!!!

so i've decided to just redo the back loom from the plug under the seat as johnperth described, hacked and poorly done wiring has become a pet hate of mine, so i'm re-doing anything that's been messed with!

Kev, thanks for the link

i've been stuck at the side of the road before because of dodgy wiring, it usually happens at a inconvient time or place too!

Thanks John!! i had bought tail light assembly's that have clear, amber and red, i started to wire them up today and realised that the bloody reverse light will blink with the blinker and both blinkers will light up in reverse as well, lol

i left the wiring after that til i could work out what to do there

on the manuals the switch is on the side of the gearbox, it'll be very easy to run a wire from that and join it in with the wires i'm already redoing, it'll be easy

thanks for the tip John :-)

Add another wire (light green will do) & run it from the reverse light switch to the 2 rear clear lights. Run the yellow & green wires to the LH & RH rear blinkers (amber lights) only.
